hey ya'll, i've had my 97 tib for a couple years now. just have some minor add-ons right now (i.e. cold air, magnaflow muffler, iridium plugs, short shifter, front strut bar). now that i'm in the army and have a steady income, i'm looking to go a little bigger. i'm currently stationed in south korea, so anybody over here that can help me out i'd greatly appreciate it.

Heya man, glad you found out how to post.
My props to anyone in the Armed Forces. Where you stationed at over there? I got out of the Army from Camp Casey.
BTW, www.kspec.com is in Korea.

No. The company making them went out of business a few years ago.
Now if we could only track down the molds for them and have Alpine cast them in South Africa for us...

Actually, that's a good plan. Let me know if you want any parts from Kspec. We can ship them to you in Korea and it will be MUCH cheaper that way. Then you can mail the parts home or ship them with your goods when you leave. Trust me, it's the cheapest way to do it.
I'd suggest getting that VHR clutch/flywheel setup, some cams, maybe a nice turbo manifold and such. Whatever you can get NOW will save you a lot of money in the future.
Just get me a set of turbulence skirts bro. We'll be cool.

i dont think theres much of an advantage... just a lil more power, i believe.. other guys will know a little more..
you can either a) build yours up, or just buy a 2.0L motor and build that up.. heres a good thing about hyundai making the 1.8L and the 2.0L
if your building a N/A motor, you can get higher compression using the 2.0L motor, with 2.0L rods, and the 1.8L pistons.
if your building a medium boost turbo motor, get the 2.0L, and use 1.8L rods, and 1.8L pistons, and you will lower the compression to make it boost friendly for cheap..
keep that in mind if your building for power..
if you are wanting to turbo, here is my suggestion for a good, cost effective build.
get some stock 1.8L rods, and 1.8L pistons.. get the rods shot peened, and polish up the tops of the pistons.
find a low mileage 2.0L block (usually pretty cheap ~300$ US)
get everything on the block cleaned up, get it acid dipped, block trued up, etc.
clean up and polish the stock valve, get the head ported and polished.
get some pulleys and a VHR flywheel/clutch kit on there before the swap, and you will be golden and have a motor built for a good amount of boost and hp. and relatively inexpensive for what potential it would have.
sorry for the long post, just tryin to be helpful and promote another boost happy tib.
