New guy here.....just ran into a link for this site on the Hyundaiperformance forum. I just bought a 98' accent L, and Love this little thing to death.....trying to make it faster though. I'm sure I'll end up doing suspension first, and I don't know that much...but doing a beta swap sounds like the ticket, but what can I do to this little 1.5L....(Cheaply)?
If anyone has any cool ideas for the new guy please let me know!

About the only thing you can do cheaply to the 1.5l that's simple is install a short ram intake. Seems like anything else is either $150+ or takes a lot of work.

i don't think there are many parts available for the 1.5L but others will have to confirm that. there have been 1.5 turbo but you'd have to redo the internals and find or have a manifold made.

Most people generally go for the Beta swaps to get the most power out of their accents, and then start boosting the engine from there. You'll see alot of people here have done that, and to be honest...a beta swap really isnt all that expensive when you look into it. You can find cheap beta engines, tranny's, and ecu's for almost next to nothing these days. smile.gif

Hey!!!!!thanks for the enthusiastic welcome!!! And yes I've pretty much noticed that there isn't much out there for the 1.5L....I've looked everywhere....the only thing I've found are expensive spark plugs and good suspension parts!!
I love my little accent, but that Lazy hamster 1.5 has to go, I'm really not even getting that good of gas mileage with it...which sucks!! New plugs & wires, o2 sensors, oil change, air filter, and yes I check my tire pressure regularly....I know it's winter and it's never really up to operating temp on short trips, but a ford exploder will get the same mileage! I found a 98 elantra 1.8 parts car that was wrek'd for 400 dollars on craigs list! I could see the swap hapening pretty soon..lol

most people swap int he 2.0l beta. in all honesty, i would stay away from upgrading the 1.5. you really won't see any results on that scale so I'd save for the beta. welcome aboard buddy
