I Guess Im A Newb Again.
Hello, people Im from the united states, namely ohio. I live in a small town where everyone loves their hondas and believes that if its not a honda it wont ever be fast. So I want to show people what my little tiburon can do.
I have been fabricating things for about 6 years now. Making custom parts for a variety of different cars, doing motor swaps in everything possible to put a different motor in. I mainly stuck to v8's and what not because they were the easiest to work on, mainly carbd motors and what not. So some of this newer stuff for the little cars is new grounds for me. A new battle field lets say. So if you can help me, I might be able to help you depending on what it is, you need help with.
Anyways, so far for the tiburon. The mods list begins with a ebay special CAI with a K&N filter. Custom cat back exhaust 3", underglow neons, B&M short throw shifter (which apparently you can only use the stock shift knob that came with the car).
A little bit about the car, I bought it looking for a fuel efficent car and found a wonderful toy. Not only was it saving on gas, it pulled unbelievably strong for a I4 motor, I was a bit skeptical about buying a hyundai, and everyone told me to get a honda or mitsubishi, but I didnt want to have what everyone else did. I wanted something different. I paid 5k for the car, it has a little over 60k miles. The motor and transmission sound and feel perfectly. The car was owned by an old man. So I dont see it as being a car that has been abused.
My plans for the car. Well, its a new learning experiance for me. Which will make things more fun. Im moving out of the supercharged v8's onto smaller motors. So possibly a turbo, forged rods and pistons, and a standalone fuel and spark managment system. I know that sounds all fast and furious like but thats what I want to do, I dont like piggy back systems where you just run off your stock computer and you tell it what you want. So please excuse me if I have periodic spurts of complaints about that stuff. While an sfacII piggyback can slightly edit what your computer tells it, it cant make proper adjustments. Secondly on that I have seen people put hundreds of $ into their hondas or mitsubishis and blow it up because it isnt proper tuning. Dont try and tell me otherwise. It is what it says it is. A piggyback fuel managment system.
I did a little reasearch into fuel and spark managment systems, so far what I cam up with is SMT-6 a perfect power system, and some haltech system. The one I liked was Megaquirt and spark. It seemed to be able to do everything else that the others could at a fraction of the price.
Well anyways, I hope to b a welcomed member of the community, and a help to the rest of the people here.
PS: sorry for the novel, but I figured a good intro would give some background info, plus give people a bit of forsight of what I want to do, and what my plans are for the car.

^^ OMFG REDZ!!! WTF?!
This is why we have the #1 source for 96-01 tiburons on the internet.
Welcome to the site. It would be helpful if you can fabricate parts for us. If you can come through with deals and group buys, then please feel free to post a bit more to become a bit more well known. We all need parts.

Ok, so I found this site when I was looking for performance mods. As well as a few others, hyundaiperformance.com. hyundaituners.com. So anyways I came across this place. I looked over a few of the threads and decided to join. I will be adding myself to hyundaiperformance.com tomorrow. Anyways, yeah. I dont know what else to say.

Ok so you said your against all piggybacks, and then listed the SMT-6 as a standalone along the lines with haltech so i assume your a bit confused.
The SAFC, SMT-6, and Emanage are all piggy backs. The latter two are far superior to the first, and their tuning capabilities more than adequately fufill the needs of a turbo engine, as long as you know what your doing, but thats the same with any tuning.
The SAFC, doesnt.
Haltech, megasquirt, and PRS-4 are the main standalone systems used by people round these parts and they can do more than piggybacks at the cost of OBD-II compliancy
You can run with or without some sort of ignition control (or spark as you put it) on any of these, or with the combination of a MSD-DIS for optimum ignition control
With that said i wish you good success with your project and welcome to the site.
