That's quite the project! Is the bolt pattern the same for the bellhousing on the 2.7l and the 2.0l? Do you know what 2.0l comes in the Sonata there?

The bolt pattern is COMPLETELY different....hence the adapter plate you see on the flywheel side!

Was it too hard to fing a 5 or 6 speed from the Tiburon? It would have bolted right in.

The tiburon does not sell here....ever. I wanted something local & not imported....confident that if something breaks....i can get spares for it & not buys expensive imported stuff after paying exorbitant customs duties etc. cool.gif

Ah, makes sense. I have heard that the 4-cylinder Sonata 5-speeds are really tough transmissions so you shouldn't have to worry about breaking them.

I don't know what models are sold there with a manual transmission but for anything with the 2.7l or 3.5l the transmissions interchange.

UPDATE:

The tranny change WAS A SUPERB SUCCESS!! Pics on the way! She TEARS through the gears leaving 5 meter long tire marks in 1st, 2nd & smaller marks in third. THIS without the RPM needle going beyond 4000!! smile.gif

i have already eaten through 2 clutches in 3 days! Started using the pressure plate of an hyundai accent crdi diesel. This seems to last. Need a LONG term solution though...since my next stage is to DUAL VGT TURBO from an Accent & to make it do around 16psi.

Long term clutch solutions? huh.gif

I would think a 2.0 clutch would work, just offhand. What flywheel are you using?

There are a lot of performance clutches available, but you will have to figure out what should work in your transmission and with the flywheel. My guess is that the clutch from a 2.0l Beta would work, but it's a lot of money to spend without being able to test it first.
