Default Hey all

Hey everyone, I just joined here from hp.com. I own a 01' Tiburon and have had it for six months now. Would love to tell you that its been problem free but then Id be lying. tongue.gif:

With only 43k on the car now, I've had my car stall out and ecm fuse fail (still really dont know why), an exhaust leak, a strut leak, a lifter problem (which dealership said was normal..right), belt squeak, having a mysterious rattling/bubbling sound coming from behind the instrument panel (dont know what that is), steering wheel vibrating badly when car is put in reverse, (clueless on that too), oxygen sensors failing, torn axle boot, tranny shifting kind of hard from 2nd to 3rd, hmm what else..oh and getting a diagnostic reading that said "no input to ecm"..this was after the fuse got fixed and such.

Ive been through hell and back with this Tibby. Can anyone try and help me figure out some of the mysterious problems Im having? Thanks a lot guys, hope Ill enjoy this site. smile.gif

first off, welcome. sorry youve had so many problems with your tib. person before you must have put it through hell.

what you should first do is try to find a new ecu on ebay or something. sounds like you might have something wrong in there, and that could cause problems with the o2 sensor. they can be had for pretty cheap.

Welcome to the site, and to be honest, if you've had it for 6 months, then it's used right?

The person that had the car before you obviously abused it, get as much fixed under warranty as you can.

Yeah you could try to take it to the dealer and explain your situation. See if you can get all of the TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) and Recalls set up. That might take care of most of those problems.

Okay I'll try and go down this list here. If you need to ask more ?? search first as it may have been dealt with recently.

Car stall - check your plugs/wires or get a tune up
http://www.rdtiburon.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6350

ECM Fuse - Fuses bust all the time. Do as tibby01 said and try to get a new ECU.

Exhaust Leak - Most likely the flexpipe or cat, both are pretty cheap and your local muffler shop should be able to help with both.

Strut Leak - get new struts, after a while they go bad and they leak. We are trying to get a good price through flyrydes.com on KONI shocks/struts but the KYB GR2 struts are great and fairly cheap (I have KYB's)

Lifter Problem - VERY common problem, everyone has dealt with this one. Use a higher mileage oil and change it frequently. Run a search for ticking, lifters, HLA's, anything like that and you'll find some solutions.

Belt Squeak - Another common problem. We are in luck though. You just need to run some maintenance and tighten the belts. Tightening is a quick/easy process, and is normally all you need to do. Just open a new thread if you have any troubles. You wanna have about 1/4 of play with the belts.

mysterious rattling/bubbling sound coming from behind the instrument panel
- hrmmmmm......... not too sure about that one. laugh.gif: take your dash apart and see if there is stuff moving around that normally shouldn't be.

Steering wheel shaking - I think Mad-Machine said motor mounts, I concur.

Oxygen Sensors Failing - could be part and parcel of your exhaust leak. YOur cat may be bad causing you too run richer than normal, thus burning out the 02 sensors.

Torn axle boot - replace that ASAP if you haven't already. CV Joints are hella expensive.

Shifting from 2nd to 3rd - Assuming an autotragic is in place new tranny fluids would help.

"no input to ecm".. - get a new ECU as tibby01 suggested that will fix that. Plus force you to take your dash apart to find out the mysterious noises behind there.

Hopefully you've fixed most of you problems, if not post up, we'll help ya out.

Welcome to the site.

Welcome to the site, and if you follow what silvertibbs posted you should be right. Sounds like the owner b4 you didn't care for the car much.

Thank you all so so so so much. I am aware of searching and have done it already with the belts and such..trust me Im no noob to forums. smile.gif

The exhaust leak, strut leak, o2 sensors, fuse, and cv boot were all fixed a couple months ago so Im only dealing with the vibration, ecm, rattling, lifter problem, belt squeak, and tranny problem. Trust me Ive told the dealer about the lifters and belts as well as the other things but they never fix any of it or even bother to look at it. Considering this car only has 43k on it since I bought it six months ago at the dealer, the owner before this did god knows what to the car. The car really did have four owners so who knows which one it could have been. If this continues or theres more problems then Im just going to have to let the car go. Its just frustrating really because I dont have a lot of time on my hands to get these things fixed. You know how dealership service areas are.

This car is a prime example of what happens when owners don't give a damn about a car.

If you do decide to give her up, please let her go to someone who cares (i.e. tiburon-lover). They tend to pay top dollar...

Most of those problems though are quick easy fixes. If you have tools at your disposal you should be able to get most of them done in an afternoon.

Some of those larger problems though......I dunno, might be that you'll have to let her go depending on your situation. But, on the other hand, You've got over 1,000 members here that'll give you a hand.
