Default Hello all

Hey everyone.
Just found this site & it looks pretty good! I am looking for some info for my 2002 Accent. It's got a broken 1.5 in it and I am looking for ideas. I am one of the many unemployed, so money is an issue. Anyway...the fun begins!!

Finding another 1.5l is the cheapest option, but if you can find a cheap 2.0l you can do the whole swap for just a few hundred dollars.

you might want to consider getting a cheap 1.5 so you have a working car and then when you are employed you can do a swap. I'd hate to see another good project in the making run dry because of funds.

Definitely think about doing the Beta swap if you can come up with the money...but like everyone else said....getting a used 1.5 should be pretty easy and failry cheap.

Welcome to the site though, and definitely let us know if you have any questions about anything. smile.gif

I found one for $500 complete and with a 90 day warranty. The one that's in the car now broke the timing belt because the previous owner apparently forgot to change it. It took out all 4 exhaust valves. What I was going to do was to replace the valves, lap them in, reinstall with new gaskets and go from there. Is it true that the head bolts are a one time use only? I can get the parts for around $250. So complete engine for $500 or the parts for $250? Finding another head is a chore itself. I am leaning towards the complete engine. I did find an engine for $250, but it's out of a 1993 Hyundai Excel and I have no idea if they're the same engine or not. http://salem.craigslist.org/pts/1491665025.html
I was thinking a nice V8 too, but.......uh.......no. laugh.gif The good part about the whole situation is that I got the car for a really good price, so if I put $500 into it, I will still be money ahead, plus it came with a full tank of gas!!

The Excel engine does not interchange.

It's fine, the Beta is the 1.8l and 2.0l found in the Elantra and Tiburon. It's a common and relatively easy swap to get more power into an Accent.

Can I get details on what common & relatively easy swap? More power is always better!!

There is no replacement for displacement........ :-)
