Before I get into my question, I just like to say "hello" from a newbie, both to the site and the Tiburon world. I recently bought a 2001 Tib, its in great shape but the original owner apparently wasn't interested in modding it any...as far as modding this Tib is still a virgin...

Not for long though, thanks to this site and knowledge/experience of this sites members...

I'm looking forward to making many mods and am hoping to start today with the installation of a remote security system (alarm and keyless entry)...after reading several forum posts and DIY articles its my understanding I need an actuator for the driver side door, however I was under the impression from what I read it didn't need to be a Tiburon actuator. Is this correct? Everytime I call a place to see if they have one, I'm always asked the year, make and model of the car. Am I not asking for what I need correctly? I see I can order one specifically for the 2001 Tib from e-Bay for 1/2 the price the local dealership quoted me...should I go this route? Any and all help or advice is greatly appreciated

Sorry about the length of my 1st post, by the way...THIS SITE ROCKS!

Thanks in advance,
hardate

Welcome to the site.

I am actually replacing my drivers side door lock actuator right now. The kind you want looks like this and is DIRT cheap on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-WIRE-POWE...023984803QQrdZ1

Just do a search for Door Lock Actuator.

I think you just need the one actuator, after messing with my broken one, that makes sence that you only need the drivers side as unlocking that door unlocks both.

They are very easy to install. If you want, I can take pics of how mine was installed tomorrow.

In the meantime, do some of the free mods listed in the DIY section.

UPDATE: I located a universal actuator at Best Buy and luckily I have a neighbor that works there and can get the it at his discount, not sure how much that is but the original cost is $25. He's also going to check on getting a solenoid for the hatchback release to be added to the remote. Looks like its starting to come together...at least the lining up of all the parts...I'll let you know how the install goes. Sure wish I could get ahold of the document 2001Tiburon created for nursethistib and talks about in a posting from about a year and a half ago.
Well, just heard from my neighbor and Best Buy didn't have the solenoid, I'm going to start looking around for it now.
Thanks for the input and if anyone know where I can find some good DIY instructions for installing an alarm with keyless entry on a 2001 Tib, please let me know.

Call some of your local stereo folks, they usually install alarms also and can get you parts.

as far as the door locks, the ebay link that redz gave you on ebay should be the one you need. Just install that on the driver side door and your good to go
