Hey all I'm Aaron out of New Jersey, I located this site through messageboards and googling the Hyundai Tiburon, currently I own a 97 dodge Avenger 5 speed, and I've decided to purchase a tiburon. I figured this would be the best way to get some info on the car and meet people who drive em. Hence why there's like no tiburon references in my name such as "Tuscani", "Coupe" or Tiburon", I'm not the type to pose as something I'm not. I was hoping maybe some of you were from the NJ area, and could perhaps meet up with me sometime to show me what this car is capable of and why you love them so much. P.S. I've testdriven an 05, and 06 Tiburon and loved every second of it. So I do have an idea of how the car handles. Thanks for listening.

welcome to the site mang.... an 05 or 06 handles nothing like 97 thru 01. in a street cours wed whip the s&%& out of em. but mostly we love the rd models here (97 thru 01) o3-06 are gks and in my opinion are way to heavy and under powered. good luck and have fun

What demon_fox said.

This site is dedicated to the 97-01 RD model Tiburon.
The 03-05's are the v6 GK model Tiburons.

If you want some info on RD vs GK comparisons, I'd suggest searching this website.

Otherwise, if you're already sold on the "GK v6" Tiburon I'd probably check out www.NewTiburon.com if I was you, while there's lots of gurus and smart guys on this forum, we are mostly familiar with the RD coupe with the beta engine (i4 in case you didn't know)

Good luck and welcome!

Oh sweet, that's my first lesson learned, well the avenger I have now is a 97 i4,so I am a bit familiar with a 4cyl engine. I was not aware that there were different letter classifications with the tiburon. Seems alot like the avenger in some ways, it's built on a 2.0 cyl platform, same engine as that of the 2nd gen 95-99 eclipses. anyways they'll smoke the newer v6's on a dime. So demon_fox if say I decided to go with an RD, what year would you recommend? and how reliable are the older models? I'm gonna ue the search feature now actually to compare hp and whatnot, but I appreciate all the warm welcomes. I'm a former member of ASEc, an avenger/sebring crew and though there are some knowledgeable folks there most guesstimate, and this car is a dyeing platform so it's time to move on.

the newer the RD, generally the more reliable i guess you could say... Hyundai is still relatively new to the auto market, and they learn more every year

97's have issues in regards to an Evap cannister thats in the way and captive rotors. 98's still have those captives...

if you like the first gen styling (RD-1), get a 99. if you like the 2nd gen styling (RD-2) get an 01

Search around the site, on the main page there's the COTM and COTY (car of the month/year) cars which are all 3 RD2s (00-01) and then there are cars like mine which are RD1s (97-99). If you get an RD1, make sure to get the FX model, because 4 discs brakes are the way to go, and swapping is a b**tch.
Early 97 models (like mine) have the evaporation canister (charcoal can) in the front, so when people try to install their CAI it gets in the way. There's a DIY tutorial and it's really a quick fix, (20 mins and $10) so I wouldn't worry about that. I personally like the RD1 styling, I used to like the RD2 headlights..but I've since changed my ways smile.gif
And whatever you do .. don't get an automatic! lol

What's your price range? Lots of guys on here would be happy to keep an eye out for you, I actually see an RD2 around campus all the time which is for sale. It's leather, 5spd, has a sunroof, I think the sign said 65XXX miles?

Welcome yea the GKs are heavy. I have a 01 and love it, but also the rd1s look good as well. My fav part is the body shape.
