Just be careful man, potholes suck even with my 17s. I agree with hamhead, keep your stockers for everyday driving, cause you won't be able to with the 18s. Just be careful, and watch where you drive.

18's do slow you down quite a bit, especially if they're heavy (which almost all of them are)...a friend of mine a while back had an auto Tib with heavy 18's...poor guy. I think his car was running high 16's or mid 17's. I don't remember which for sure and that's because he had some mods on it.

What's up RD, my names Billy and I have opinions and questions and feel I am not yet ready to use the new thread button. . . . ok lame, anyway, name's Kris, U.S. Army and I guess I will use this (my first post) to intro and ask my question as search hasn't been very helpful for me on many questions I have. Redzman, I am impressed with the running of the site and the amount of time you put into it here and info people give on a consistant basis from the regulars. My first question will be here on the 18's.
So they rub, but seventeens look pretty small on the car in my opinion, show quality is just screaming 18's, so my question is, will 18's be easily accepted by the shark if it were setup with an airbag ride and driven at full extension? aren't the heights adjustable to compensate for this at install?

Thanks RDT.

it really depends on your rim design. some 17' rims look larger than others.

for racing purpose, 17's is the highest you can go without having to suffer weight consequences. you don't see Ferraris and McLaren's pimpin' 18's in Formula 1 or LeMans do you?

you can run 25's and not have to worry about height BUT--it's the sidewalls you are trying to keep away from. airride won't do anything. all it is is a hydraulics system. it won't shrink your rims. 18's are just for show and they kind of look goofy on our cars in my opinion. you just have to have a good eye and check the wheels out. my advice is to check blacktib's rims. his rims might look bigger than 17' but it's the design of them which makes it look cool.

hope that helps. oh yeah. and you WILL be looking at a cracked rim if you go 18. if you do go 18, chances are your sidewalls would have to be customized. my best friend is even running on 17's and his rims are bent!!! really bad!

possible yes, practical no...

You're gonna rub like crazy and nothing is more annoying than the sound of tires rubbing on the wheel well. My friend had 18s on his elantra and it was just so assinine. He was constantly rubbing with every bump, and plus with the rims he chose it just looked ridiculous.

Thanks for the compliments bro, HOOAH to you and your compadres.

Let us know where you are at, so we can send you stuff when you deploy.

What's your MOS and rank?

Anyways, on to the questions.

18's.

*Shudder*

Everyone is getting brainwashed by the mass media into DUB DUB DUB psychology. Bigger may look cool, but it is in NO way, at all, better.

Can you fit 18's?

Yes.

Will you like the way it looks?

Maybe. Probably yes.

Will you be dissapointed in the ride?

MOST DEFINATELY.

Will your rims get damaged easily?

YES.

Will you spend a lot to get them fixed/Replaced?

YES.

Will you lose out on performance?

IN EVERY WAY.

What you CAN do, that'll make you just as happy, is get some very good looking 16's or 17's with a smaller sidewall tire, and just drop the car a bit. This would make the ride look better all around. Popping on 18's and NOT lowering the car, will still keep the ride height higher, and lookin like do-do.

I have 16's, and I get very nice comments on them on a regular basis. I've recieved 3 PM's in the past 2 weeks on what kind they are and where to get them. They are light, 13.5 pounds a piece, and look great. I don't have rubber bands on them. I take corners at 50 to 60 MPH now and then to try them out. They work GREAT. And best of all, my tib will MOVE.

A jacked up air suspension gives mad wheel well room, so I thought it would work. Plus the give is so stiff the highways will be pretty ok to cruise. But I suppose not. The cuda kit makes rims look small so I just figured. I will be SPC Lee in a month for my two years of my 6 year minimum enlistment with possible re-up for three at my five year mark. 31S...Satallite Comms. And as far as performance goes, I have had issues with performance over the last couple cars and I just don't see (note having an automatic) how putting the couple grand in header, custom exhaust, CAI, BBTB and coming out still slower than stock cars of now is worth the attempt. The body is all for show IMO these days. Even the Tiby weak!! v6 was a joke as 4 bangers now can run it ragged. If there isn't an engine swap and serious work done internal, no turbo = no chance. But I appreciate it, and still believe the Gen 2 to have the best of potential in the show catagory as they are rarely seen even competing on the east coast. So we shall see what we can do about this lil fellow.

airride is just too much of a hassle to install and run. with that kind of money you might as well just buy a turbo and there you go.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>no turbo = no chance.</div>

on our cars, very true. anyone else care to comment?
