Where To Get New Speakers In Canada And What Kind?
I brought up an old thread but I need some good recomendations kinda soon and i'm not getting any replies in the other thread. I am in the market for some new speakers and am totally new to anything dealing with electrical/speakers/lighting all that stuff. So I just started looking at websites like bestbuy and I've always just like JBL. My comp speakers are JBL and they sound really good, ha...I also just found out that JBL is a lot different than JL. I always thought they were owned by the same company or somthin but yeah, I was wrong so could you guys really help me out. I'm looking for some new good speakers for the interior and don't know if I will need an amp or anything like that. I don't want to cheap out at all. The JBL's I was looking at on bestbuy were like 200 each for the 6x9's. Should I be spending closer to 300 for a quality speaker?
I was hopin you guys could give me a short run down of what I have to do with harnesses(I don't even know if that applies) and if I need an amp and all that stuff because I am pretty lost on this subject.

If you're completely new to the whole subject of car audio, outline a few other things first.
Do you have an aftermarket CD player already? Do you want one?
Do you want just the regular 4 speakers, or do you want subs/bass? If so, you'll need an amp for sure.
Don't worry about wiring harnesses or any of that unless you plan on doing it yourself. I'd recommend letting a shop do it. Most of the places will do an install for pretty cheap, especially when you're buying the components from them. They'll take care of the wiring and harness that you'll need.

We bought the car with a Blaupunkt but I don't think it's anything special. It's 210 watts fyi.

I hope when I get a new deck it gives a difference from this one still, because I hear people saying going from stock to an aftermarket deck makes everything sound better.
I want to upgrade the 4 interior speakers and have 2 12's in the trunk eventually (gonna be pretty loud?) but i'm not sure if I should do the interior speakers first or do EVERYTHING at once? Oh, I'm just never gonna pay a shop to do anything for me other than paint the car and weld. I just like doing it myself and learning. Just gotta make sure you dont f up and short out the whole car or somthing stupid because I don't know what i'm doing, lol.
Thanks for the help, keep it coming. smile.gif

A setup similar to this would sound pretty nice in a tib. Look into alpine head units. They have the best sound quality hands down.

Then you would need the little stuff like amp kit, speaker wire and install.
if you really want subs try the kicker L7 12" get it in a 3 to 3 1/2 cubic ft ported box tuned to around 38 hz and you car will be wowwwww!

There's to much selection in car audio, lol. I have no idea what to look for. I just know I like JL but there probably really expensive. Those infinity's you linked me to are american prices right?
For 12" subs, I recommend these:

They're the ones I have and they're great. laugh.gif
I'd recommend doing the whole audio setup at once, but if you have to split it up (for money reasons or whatever else), do the speakers before the subs. It'll give you a good idea of what you're getting yourself into with wiring before you tackle the job of wiring up subs and an amp.
As ABQ said, Alpine units are awesome. I've only heard good from them. I had a Clarion for a long time, and it was also pretty good. Right now, I have a Jensen touch-screen DVD player, and so far it does exactly what I want it to do. smile.gif
I guess a break down of what you'd need for a sub might help you? Someone correct me if I miss anything or get something wrong. I'm not an expert. tongue.gif
- The subs.
- An amp (or amps) that can power them properly. You'll have to check the power requirements for your subs.
- Wiring kit. Depending on what kind of subs you have, a standard 4 AWG kit should give you everything you need. Power wire, ground wire, RCA cables, sub power cables, fuses.
The existing speaker wires for your component speakers might not be an easy clip on to the new speakers you buy, but you'll find that out once you take the door panel off.
I don't know if any of that ^^^ will help you or not, but we'll all be here to lend a hand once you buy your parts and are ready to put them in. laugh.gif
