Test For A Blown Sub?

How do I know if I have a blown sub? My setup all the sudden died and I think the sub blew. I was told to hook it straight up to a battery and see if it makes noise. True?

Do not hook it straight up to a battery. if the sub is blown the whole setup will still work but it will sound bad. check for power to the amp and if there is no power tehn check your fuses and check to make sure your remote wire works. also if all that is good, check your ground. then you should be good. let us know if you need anything else

I'm getting power to the amp and the remote wire works because it turns on when the radio does.
I'm also getting a signal from the radio, although faint. I'm not sure how much of a power reading I should be getting from that.
I'm also getting a faint reading from the amp to the subs. Not sure how much power I should be getting there either.

Do you get any noise at all out of the subs?
Try removing the sub from the box (I'm assuming it is in a box) and playing it (make sure to disconnect any other subs so you can hear it). If it sounds funny or rattles out of the box it is most likely blown.
Do you have a friend w/ a system that will let you disconnect his subs and hook yours up to see if they work.
If you have two subs, be sure to test them seperately

No, I don't get any noise at all from them. I'm thinking it might be the amp, but I dont know how to check anything since I dont know what kind of voltages I should be getting from them.

Check the fuses on the amp if you haven't already...
If you can hook your subs up to a friends amp and their working subs to your amp, you can figure out which one is the problem.

I only know one person with a system, so I guess it'll have to wait. 02.gif

to test the subs disconect them and put it on a 9v but dont hold it there just touch and if the sub pops its fine to check ur amp take the sub wires out of the + and - terminals and put a volt meter and then turn on ur deck and turn it up a bit and the needle should move if ur amp works

All that check out. The subs move with a battery and I get a small reading from the amp. It's extremely small though. Like it barely moves when the voltmeter is switched to 10V.
