subs
I have a 97 tibby FX and i just hooked up two bostwick 10 inch subs powered by a 400 watt amp. I kept my stock headunit and hooked up wires from my rear 6x9's to the amp so that the amp also gets sound to them. The problem is that my subs are not bassy at all! They sound like they are barely being powered eventhough they are hooked up to a 400 watt amp. I was wondering if hooking the amp up to the rear 6x9s is the reason why the subs are not bassy. Since i do not have sub-out on my stock tibby headunit, hooking my amp up to the 6x9s is the only way i could think of that could power the subs. It seems as though the amp is not even amplifying the subs. It just sounds like my subs are just additional 6x9s. My setup currently is headunit to stock speakers, including the 6x9s, then 6x9s to amp, then amp to subs. Anyone know why I have so little bass? I can hardly tell a difference between the stock and the subwoofered sound system.

What gauge wire do you have running for the amp to power it?
Are the fuzes good?
Do you have the gain turned up?>

you need high inputs in order to hook up the speaker wire to the amp...it will look like a little plastic plug that u have to attach the speaker wires to...if you get some sound out of the subs then its hooked up right...just not big enough amp...and with a 400 watt amp..most amps are rated in peak power which would really mean its a 200 watt amp or 100x2 which if u ask me is not enough to power a sub to have decent bass
also check the gain on the amp and turn it up.. and see if it has a lowpass crossover and bass boost...these will also help u get more bass outta it...but what ever you do..dont thump new subs to hard till they're "broken" in or they will blow out prematurely

I would say check the gain too. That is what it sounds like to me. What kind of amp do you have? Can you take pics of the setup, especially close-ups of the connections to the amp and the controls. Do yourself some good and get a different head unit. Something with some good pre-outs. Decent head units can be had new for cheap. A 400 watt amp is plenty to power two 10's. They should have some good bass to them. My little cousin bought some cheap 12's rated at 500 watts rms and I hooked up the 460 watt amp that came with it and they hit fine. Also, do you have a good ground on the amp?
i also have my amp run off my factory head unit..i have 1 12" with a lil 250 rms amp...and it thumps hard...i'd mostly say its the crossover and gain that need adjusted....i just meant that if he wants more bump then he needs more amp

Mine worked fine off of the stock head too, I just had one of them signal boxes in the back, cheap thing from Walmart with a BUNCH of wires on it to hook up signal from speakers to the Amp.
