I've got my entire door panels either painted, or clear coated. center console, and all the dash works painted. came out great (i know, im an artist) but the clear coat i use doesn't work too good. it's the truck/van/suv clear coat that everyone else says to use, and i mean it works good, but i want something tougher. this is my daily driver, and I want it to eventually be a show car, but I cant do that if I have to repaint/clear it all the time.
Is there anything I can use, like maybe clear coat meant for the car (like alsa's clear, maybe the one where it feels uber soft or whatever). would that work?

 

PPG clear is what I would recommend for stregnth... As for door panels, you mean the WHOLE door panel is painted? If so I'm sorry because that what I did to mine and the paint cracked in no time, but my doors get alot of wear on the especially with the lambo's I'm all the time kicking them and shoving on them... When I had my interior spray painted I used the engine enamal 500 degree stuff and it had a high shine and never chipped, so if you want to go that route you could too.

 

I use the small cans of house of kolor available from wal mart.

 

No, right now I have the entire (inside) door clear coated for shine and to help keep the stickers (lol VDI and flyryde) on. Yeah I have the lambo's on too, but now im uber careful with the inside. My biggest problem is just bumping it or something and then it gets a scratch or something, and I'm stuck having to repaint the entire piece.

The HoK cans, do you mean spray paint cans? And are they in the house-paint aisle? I haven't seen those before I don't think.. do you mean HoK actual paint? Or clear coat.

PPG is top of the line I've never used the gun HOK but it's up there if not on the same level. The HOK pandy is talkin about is the spray paint cans that are sitting beside the HOK chameleon paint in the automotive section at wal-mart (at least here it is), I've never used it before, just thought the price was kinda of rediculas... I think it was 7-10 or somethin for a little can of it... The high heat engine enamel is 4.44/can, but it's cracked on my door panel, I abuse mine though lol All I can say is painting the whole door panel sucks I think I'm going to FG the bigger part, and leave the smaller part painted regularly so I dont have to worry about the windows/ handle/ lock/ mirror controls...

 

When you consider that to set up 1 3/4 quarts of real HOK clear would cost around $100 then 6oz or whatever it is (maybe 8oz) for $8 is a bargain hehe.

I cleared my kameleon interior bits with the HOK canned stuff from walmart (took one can) and its still amazing 18 months on.

I have FG materials.. I've been wanting to glass stuff on the car but never got around to it.. if you do the door panel lemme know how it goes. I was thinking about doing just my air-bag cover thingy, and then maybe later on glassing something over it (I would think glass to glass would adhere better anyway)
