I want to replace my stock front door speakers. Searching here seems to indicate they're an odd size, slightly larger than 6 1/4". Is this correct and is it easy to put 6 1/4" speakers in? Also (and this may sound dumb) I am running an 18 W x 4 Alpine head unit. Are there any decent speakers out there that run at this low of a wattage cause I don't want to get an amp. I'm not looking for more power, just something with a little more high-end and generally improved quality. Any recommendations?

Most people are just using 6 1/2 inch speakers, thats what fits best.

Almost any average speaker you are going to buy (wal-mart, best buy, where ever) will run fine off of your head unit unless you were to get something really high end then you would need an amp.

Pretty much anything is going to sound better than stock. The front doors are 6 3/4", not 6 1/2". You can probably make 6.5's fit, but it'll take drilling new holes.

Thanks i8acobra for the info and the link. I found a similar lower end pair of Kenwoods based off a google search and got them for $40 including shipping. Hope they're not too cheap. I found the ones you mentioned for about $45 not including shipping.

I'll report back here on the final sound quality after I get them and my subs in.

 

anything can be made to fit. plates can be made so even 6" speakers will fit, no biggie.

I've made plates out of 16 ga. steel and put sound deadening on the back of them to install my boston acoustic series 6" midranges in the 6x9 slot.

 

Based on the question, I assumed he was a novice. A drop-in is best for a novice.

6.5 inch speakers fit just fine, no holes need drilled. All you need to do is put one screw in to hold the speaker, then push on the plastic mount a bit to fit the next screw in, and so forth, all the way around.


Get a good 3 way speaker for the replacements.
