Default Shifter Boot/Sleeve Replacement

Recently I bought a shifter boot for my 2000 Elantra ... to match the shifter knob that I order... When I removed the shift cover I discovered that the shifter boot it stapled to a ring that is secured little aluminum rivets that attach to plastic rods that come down from the cover it's self has anyone done a transfer and had it work... I don't want to cut them and screw the shifter cover up. If anyone can help... I'd love it.

Sorry man, I had the same problem when I did mine and I had to unscrew and cut everything off. I got the Skull head shift knob with the eyes that light up so it was a sacrifice I had to make. Since you are having to change the boot and everything just go ahead and get the short shifter from shark racing, that thing is the bomb..makes your car a lot more fun to drive.

I've never really looked under the shift boot that closely...but couldn't you just pull the old out out of the staples, and staple the new one to the ring?

Using short staples they should not go through the plastic.

Random,
I thought about that but what kind of staples would I need to use... the ones in a staple gun? If that worked what should I do with the rivet like knobs that hold the ring in place on the console?

I'll have to take mine off and look at it. I was figuing with practice, you could take the rivits off, and then unstaple and re-staple (with short staples from a staple gun), then hammer/push the rivets back on...

I'll look into it tonight.

Yeh that is odd but the Tibby's shifter is round right? See the Elantras are rectangular... I'll take a picture of the underneath of the shifter for ya Random thanks.

Anyone found a sport shift knob for the Auto 2000 Tibby that works w/ the O/D button on the side?
