Ricey or much needed?

What do you guys think? Are these types of steering wheel covers nothing but rice or do they really help you get a better grip on the wheel? I know the one in the pic says Type R, but I'm talking about them in general.
What about this kind?

My old (current, but old) Elantra's steering wheel is looking a little uh, old. Just the other day i was thinking about getting a cover. My old(er) truck had one and this car had one for a while when it was my Wife's car. I like them until they fall apart, which they all will unless you buy a leather one. I prefer the ones that get spiral-wrapped all the way around so there is no slipping.

A cover of that kind (like the Type R) really does not help grip if your steering wheel is still in normal condition.
That is one of those russian tuning things I mentioned in the other thread.
It will look odd on the Tib, but some people wrap their steering wheel with tennis racket wrap. That works quite good regarding grip.

here's mine.. i HAD to put it in coz the steering wheel material (hard foam, i think) was practically falling apart. i'd change my steering wheel if i had the options and chance available to me..

you can get a new wheel at a wrecker's yard for the same price as a cover. imo they look out of place, and they feel really squishy and odd. not a big fan i have to say.
