Default Remote Radar Detectors

I'd like to get some opinions on remote-mount detectors, like the Escort SR1 and the K40 version. Anyone have any experience using or installing these? A place in the area quoted me around $600 installed for the SR1...I'd like to think I'm a smart enough human being to do the install myself and save some money. A friend of mine told me he'd also heard of a wireless version of these, that don't require you to run any cables through the firewall, from the bumper, and into your cockpit. I couldn't find anything like this, though, so if anyone has any info on a wireless version, PLEASE let me know.

As it stands at the moment, from the research I've done, the SR1 is substantially cheaper, but somewhat more unsightly in terms of the display console. The K40 is more expensive, but mounts much more discreetly, either directly into your stock gauge cluster, or into a small unobtrusive console. Whichever I got, I'd probably try and mount into my wraparound gauge pod, along with all my turbo-related gauges.

I have one and installation is a breeze, if you can install an amplifier or fog lights you should be able to do this with no problem. As you may know the antenna goes out front behind the grill and you run the wires from it to the inside of your car. You then run the power from the display unit to the fuse box inside the car. Then depending whatever else come with your detector (rear antenna: run to back of car, outside; laser detector: inside of car to top of wiundshield) that's it.

I've got a Bel 915? vector remote, comes with a radar box and two laser detectors. MHO is that they rule, ****ing awesome well worth their money. Mine was $599 or something, but I got it on ebay for $199 new.

Get it, cop's can't see it and it doesn't get affected by vibrations(glass mounted) and circuitry. Email me for my install pictures.
