I had a problem where I could unlock the car with the remote, but had to lock it with the key......which doesn't set the alarm. I found a way to fix it which I posted on the UKHCS forums.

Good work! you really should post the full thing in DIY mang.
I should mention in this thread that if you have a problem with the fob not responding, usually it's the battery. If it's not the battery, then it's the battery terminals. Battery terminals inside a fob can be cleaned using a pencil's eraser. If that dosn't work, bend and adjust the battery terminals so the battery is tighter inside the fob and make sure there's no forign objects inside.
edit: by forign, i of course mean if you open it and find Pandy or another object which does not belong inside a fob, remove it immediately.
