Well, my old one finally took a dump, the speaker doesn't work anymore, and I find myself speeding a lot again without it reminding me of what's right.

Anyone have some good reccomendations for a radar detector?

Elaborate why you like it and where I can find it. Thanks!

Well i have like the second best cobra they make, only becuse i kept getting out bid on ebay, though, im not reccomending a cobra, Id reccomend the--Escort Passport 8500 X50. Its the one i personaly wanted, but I settled for a cheap Cobra.

Lots of great reviews for the Escort out there, I convinced my friend to get it and he picks up things my pos cobra dosent.

Or just get a valentine 1 if you got the money, but im guessing you just want one for the added security, its not like your speed racer or anything.

I have the whistler XTR690. I love it, I researched for some of the better but cheap radar detectors over the summer and this is what I came away with. It works great. Never had any problems with it and it has some great features. Depending on where you mount it on the top of the unit there are 2 blue LEDS that blink when the unit is going off, this helps if you like to drive around with loud music playing. It has a small compass built in which works pretty good.

In all the reviews that I read of this detector people loved it. There was one review where one guy took it out with the Escort 8500 and the Valentine 1 and was very surprised on how well it worked compared to the other high priced units.

The best part for me was that I got this one for under $120 from Here

They also have another detector which is a little more money, the Pro 78. There are only a few differences and I think the main one is the display. The pro 78 uses a LED text display while the XTR-690 uses a LCD display

what i would recommend is placing a wedge shaped piece of wood UNDER the go pedal that limits you to 65mph, hehe.

or just have MARLA do to you what my gpa did when i was 16: have your right shoe....bronzed.

hell bud go all out and get a bel k40. expensive as hell but they do have a lifetime warranty.

Passport 9500 or Valentine. Both have excellent reviews, just depends on how much you want to spend.

The Bel RX65 is the best radar detector I have ever had. Perhaps not the cheapest, I bought mine for $230, but it sees cops way before you see them whether around curves or over hills. Every Whistler I have ever had was a piece of junk. I do not recommend those.

i have mixed feelings w/ RADAR detectors.... I've had mine ever since i got my black tiburon. i had a Bel Tronics bought from Circuit City back in 2003. cost over $200....

a RADAR detector is virtually useless on highways (as far as i'm concerned). Most State Troopers do not drive with their RADAR on. They use Lazer, LIDAR, or any other version of the sort. these are the "point and catch" type systems. almost every RADAR on the market is useless to this, because by the time your detector picks up the signal, you're already caught.

i loved my detector on local roads where Staties weren't around. it worked great. but, on state highways i knew just to be careful and not trust the detector...

that being said.... i loved my Bel. its probably very outdated now, but it still worked very well by the time i stopped driving last year. haha

Yah, when you get a laser alert and you speeding just pull over, your already f-ed in the A. More and more cops keep usin lasers down where i live, im lucky i dont speed where I know their at. I like the added security of a radar detector tho. AND I needed a compass.
