had a crack in my windshield, the crack moved to the place where the mirror connects and one day the entire thing fell off (that's all 3 pieces, including some glass that was still stuck to it).
got the windshield replaced today, and the place that installed it stuck a new rear view mirror bracket on there.
now my question is, how do i get the 2nd piece that the mirror swivels on detached from the old bracket that was stuck on the glass? it LOOKS like it should slide off, but i can't get it to.
the entire thing is made up of 3 pieces:
1 the part that attaches to the glass (i have a new one that is now on my windshield)
2 the piece that the mirror swivels on and is attached to piece 1 (i need to get this off of the OLD piece 1)
3 the mirror intself

if I remember correctly... you should push the base of the mirror "up" towards the headliner and it should come loose of the "shoe" that connects to the glass. You are going to need to find some way to secure the little bit of glass without shreading your hands and then push on the base of the mirror.
Look at it closely, I am pretty sure it is obvious as to which way you have to move it.. one side will be compleatly solid over the shoe and the other will have a seam... the seamed side is where they come apart.

oh because i just realized where the mirror connects to the swivel thing actually broke, it's supposed to stay connected..either i did it or the glass install guy did. but that's why we have you TC! lol :-D
thx again..
thx again..
zoned you may want to wait a couple of days before you try to remove it. You may put enough pressure on the glass that it may mess up the seal.
You have to push out (sort of up, i guess) on the base of part 2, and at the same time pull down on it.
Check out my DIY for a very simple pic about how to remove it.

nono you guys don't understand..
im trying to get the piece 2 separated from the BROKEN OLD piece 1. it is not attached to the glass (it's on my desk), i have a NEW one on the glass.
might as well lock this, TC is sending me a new rear view mirror anyway beacuse i just realized that they are both broken so even if i did get it separated it wouldn't do me any good.
