Default Question about clipping

I want to learn more about clipping. Basically what causes it? What damage can be caused by it happening? If your subs and speakers are not distorting and still sound great, is it still possible for clipping to occur? How would I notice it?

Thanks you guru's...

You notice it because it sounds like ass when it gets really bad. When it's only a little, you won't notice. Your entire stereo system can be fried, from amps to crossovers to speakers.

You cant tell clipping from playing music.

Do u have amp running your speakers ?

Set your Sub/Amp Gain to lowest, Set max Audio to your Mids(speakers) till they distort Then set it just below that level on your headunit (that will be your new max level) . Set your HPF to Highest it can go. (So low Tones don't f*ck your mids while ur sub testing) (unconnect from from rear of headunit if u have no High pass filter (HPF)

Put in a 40Hz Test CD or download one or Stream from your phone.

Put it to the same audio level ur Mids just before they Distorted.

Put any Subwoofer only Controls to Max (Sony have 1-6 @50/68hz ect) This is so once u set ur max Gain. (When u incress the Level over the max gain u dont clip it)

Turn up ur gain up, It will get louder but as soon as sound changes your clipping So back it up alittle.

While doing all this set all ur EQ to Flat. Any extra Loud Settings off ect.
