Right, I had two setups in my car.
The first one was made totally out of mdf and it was the picture with the subs on the sides of the car with the amps next to the subs. This setup cost me £950 including the equipment and was installed by an audio shop. The setup looked really nice but sounded like shit!! They did not realise that a 12" sub needs more then 0.8 cubic ft of space especially when you port it. So I ripped it all out and started again my self.
The second one with the subs mounted in the floor of the boot I done myself. It is a fibreglass enclosure with an mdf piece for the flat boot. I done some reading on enclosure sizes and fibreglassing before I started. Materials cost me £80 and time was 3 days. This setup sounds awsome, crystal clear with no distortion even though they are underpowered. I used the same amps and wires but my subs were changed to specific subs for small enclosures.
What you go for is up to you, but make sure the enclosure has enough volume for the subs you are using, the tire well only had enough space to mount my 10" Infinity Perfect 10VQ subs. These subs are phenominal because you can adjust the sub using insterts to 3 setting depending on the size of the enclosure.
