So I got my new Clarion dvd in dash unit, and everything is great, except it has that stupid prevention thing built in so that you cant watch movies and drive at the same time. I know alot of people say just ground the parking brake cable from the head unit, but that doesnt work.
Sooo....I need to install a switch. One side of the switch to the Head unit parking cable, the ther side of it to the e-brake signal wire. Problem is, I have no clue what the signal wire to the e-brake is or looks like. Anyone have any ideas? Or do you know if a resistor or anything else will work other than a switch? I looked online for unlock codes, and there's nothing. And like I said...I did ground the parking brake wire itself to the chassis in multiple spots, and nothing. So unless there's some other magical way other than installing a switch, let me know. Otherwise hook me up with where the e-brake signal wire is. Thanks everyone. smile.gif

It uses the ebrake signal wire to allow it to turn on. When the ebrake is up, it can play movies and such, when not, it cant.
So it'd be as simple as wiring into that wire would it not?
If you haven't figured it out by then, Sunday I have to replace my e-brake cables cause they're snapped - I can check for where the wire is then.
I'd be set with that player then, since my cables are snapped I can drive around with the e-brake up all day lmao.gif

Before I found the unlock codes to my Jensen, I used a radio shack SPST switch, momentary, normally closed. It was grounded at all times until I pressed the button. For some reason Jensen decided to make a "e-brake sequence" where if you started the car with the parking brake on, then you had to disengauge the parking brake for 1 second, then put it back on. No more or less then 1 second. It was annoying, but it may work for you. I'd start my car, press the switch, then release and it would play DVD.
The E-brake applies a ground when pulled. That's pretty much standard on all cars. The deck may be waiting for you to disconnect, then reconnect that signal.

^^ DTN is probably on the right track. Check the manual for a sequence, such as, Parking brake up, then down, then up. If this is the case the easiest way around it is to put a switch on the parking brake wire from the head unit and then to ground. Then all you have to do is flip the switch a few times. As for wiring it up to the parking brake itself, I believe it's a green wire that is accessible if you take out the center console. Its the only wire attatched to the parking brake.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the switch (probably get a push button type), and go from there.
I dont really want to remove the center console completely, but when I pull up the shifter base, I can see wire running back to the hand brake. Theres a set of wires that are in a yellow loom, and theres a set of wires that are wrapped up in black electrical tape (from the factory). Both sets of wires have 3 colored wires that are all different from each other. *lol* Any ideas?

Here's what I did, very simple: Connect the wire from the DVD player that should be connected to the e-brake to a switch. Then run a second wire from the switch to a grounding point (there's a few in the dash). That's it. All that wire needs is to be grounded, and by switching the switch, you are creating that ground.

DON'T TOUCH THE YELLOW LOOM!!!!!!!! It's yellow as in fire. As in sets off the only explosives your car has in it... Yellow = Airbag.
Let me get out my handy dandy shop manual and I'll try to get a wire color.
says here that it's a Yellow/black wire.
