Ok, question regarding DB drags...
I've seen a few posts about the decibel level of this or that stereo, but I want to know where these measurements are taken.
I've heard people talking about their two 12" subs knocking down 150 decibels, but I never have known where they hell they measure these things from. I know at least one competition ruling where you can put the microphone anywhere that's at least 18" (or some arbitrary distance) from any speaker cone or accoustic port.
Do they still measure from the windshield as well? I haven't done this stuff in a few years, but both times I went to a sound-off they measured the sound pressure level from the inside corner of my front windshield.
Anyone shed some light on this?

last one i went to {last saturday} measured teh front winshield some guys system there was so loud he had his headunit on 1 and recorded a 154.8 the mic the place was using could only read up to 160 and when he had it cranked it wouldnt register, the guy was a dick though
what was he running and what were was this comp. that ive never heard of a mic cutting out at 160 if that was the case it wouldnt be any good for any class other then 1-2 street and some 3-4. and to answer your question about the place ment of the mic is 2 inches from the pillar and 2 inches from the windshield i belive. the comp u are talking about that alows u to put the mic anywhere is outlaw u can put the mic in the damn speaker box if u want i dont like this class u can gut your car everything im more of a street man my self.

must have been in extreme class them. i dont know what was up with the mic but i sould be able to register. over 160 db with no problem. im not sure but i belive u are not aloud to have your hu out side of the car.that would make it illegal. anyway im sure this wasnt a certified spl event so that wouldnt complie.
Hmm, well ok then. I wasn't sure where it was measured, and I have heard of outlaw but I never see anyone mention where it's done.
Last time I had mine checked (like two years ago, it's all been removed now) I hit 149.2db at 53hz. I had previously hit 147.7db at 51hz but the crossover wasn't set right and the box needed a bit more tuning.
I was using four JL 12W0's and a pair of Hifonics amps. Fairly inexpensive setup, thumped pretty good, but I was hoping to break 150db smile.gif
Thanks for the info,

Ok I have competed in numerous DB drags and this is how they should go when run by IASCA rules. 2 cars come up to a line with a traffic light in the middle when the light goes to green they both turn their sterio up and the first one to get the highest db wins now it is still possible to make the final 10 even if you loose your first drag at the end of everyone qualifing then when you drag head to head does it con't for your finishing rank. Top 3 get trophies. The mic base is placed on the passenger side floor with the mic 2 inches above the dash facing the front of the car. And the highest I have hit was 2 weekends ago 153.3 with 2 JL12w4's each is ran by a punch 800a2. Hope all this info helps
