Hey,

I own a 2001 Tiburon that I purchased used in August. Everything about the car has been great but I've got a few minor annoyances I really want to find out a solution to.

1. My god damn car alarm. Never goes off at home or anywhere else EXCEPT all day long in the parking lot at work every now and then. Is there any kill switch or anything at all I can do to silence the alarm when I lock up the car or just not set it?
*On a related note any reason why the car beeps only sometimes when I lock or unlock doors?

2. I have a short in the stock radio, no doubt about it. Has anyone ever run into problems with a tape (yes a tape, they still exist lol...I use it as an ipod adaptor) not reading? Any solutions short of a new radio?

That about it, if anyone can tell me what to do I'd be really grateful (esp. the alarm thing, my co-workers are going to murder me.)

...anyone?

Nobody here can really help you with your alarm. No tiburon came from the factory (at least in the states) with an alarm as standard equipment. If it came from the dealer that way, it was added there. Best bet is to find an installation place that knows the system you have and ask them.

I never ran the stock radio that long (it was in the car a week before I yanked it for a nice Sony) but you have to realise that your radio is now almost 5 years old. Have you ever cleaned the tape heads?

I didn't know no stock tib came with an alarm system. The one that came with the car is cool and all, has remote start, etc. etc. but it's f'n twitchy as hell.

I figure I'll just have to go to my audio guy and get whatever bugs worked out. As far as I know the tape heads were never cleaned, I've only owned the car a few months and I know I haven't done it.

btw, I posted this in the off topic section because I figured it would get the most reponses/didn't think it fit anywhere else that well, since the question had 2 parts.

That's what I'd do. If you don't know where it was installed.. just take it anywhere that deals with auto electric.. I know for a fact my alarm (Python) is adjustable.. I don't really know how to do it but I don't think it's too difficult if you knew anything about alarms. The place I got mine installed will do it for free.. but that might just be because I bought it off of them?

I had to turn mine down as well.. haha. My dad owns a trucking business and I have huge semis rolling past it all the time.. shit gets annoying. It will go off and wake my ass up at like 3:00 AM and I figured it was time for a change, haha.

I love car alarms.. when I was driving my fiat everyday, I would often set off this guy's alarm in his honda at work. All I needed to do was idle into the lot, the tone of the exhaust (which was not loud) was enough to set it off. I know it used to worry him that his alarm went off almost everyday.. until the time I pulled in while he was walking away from his car. From that day on, he never parked near the entrance.

And yes, I am sure the sensitivity can be turned down

Dude, seriously it's not even the sensitivity (unless it's just a slight breeze setting it off!) because it just goes off randomly all day at work. Ugh. I was ready to rip out the horn lol.

makes me wonder if the short in the radio is causing the alarm to go off.
