It too depends on your interpretation of great... but for what 90% of the population want.. a head unit of den cent quality Speakers is fantastic.. most of the time they want something that sounds as good as the factory Bose system.. its not really Bose.. its not really premium.. a set of $99 splits and a head unit and they go wow that sounds so much better...

As long as it sounds as good as their iPod headphones that's all that matters...

I'm sorry I will never understand this concept of buy garbage because its just as good...

There are so many good quality brands around now and cheap.. speakers morel maximo 6' splits.. $249 rep sound like they should be worth 399-499 price bracket..

Head units. I know Al and eds sell name brand CD players for 69 or 79 bucks in the states.. how can you get something cheaper than that and make a conscious decision to save 10 bucks and buy the no name garbage..

Some name brand companies just slap their sticker on cheap crap and sell it for a premium. TV companies do it all the time. I work in HVAC and I've seen the furnaces we install with 5 or 6 different names, EXACT same furnace, different name on the front. Sometimes that extra $150 you spend is paying for the companies huge marketing expenses. Not saying this is always the case, but sometimes.

I built my stereo in my car with clearance speakers and a used head unit. Sony head unit ($150 1 year old worth $250+ new) with MTX and JBL speakers (on sale $150, reg price $300+), no amp or sub, and it sounds great. Would I like a better "system"? Sure. Do I need a better "system"? Not really.

I used that security mesh and when i needed to use the trunk i have one of those lined picnic style mats stored underneath but that sub is being moved because the air tank for my air bag suspension is going there.
