Default New Radio istall Q?...

I picked up a used eclipse 7001 in dash receiver with monitor and added to it a new clarion in-dash DVD, CD, MP3 player. I can put the panel with the cup holder and ash try to fit back in because it hits the lower left hand corner of the DVD player. Also it doesn't fit the space fully, it has an ugly gap around the edges.

What have others done to remedy this? Options ideas? Is there an after market panel I can use, or do I just have to shave a little off the stock panel and find something to fill the gaps with?

Thanks,
A. Rojas

I think I will try to file doen the panel insted. I have to paint it anyway. It already blue but going to make it a little darker, too light for my taste.

Anyone else? What about the ungle gap around the edges?

Thanks

I had a similar problem with a system that I put in a friend's Kia. The factory unit is just a touch wider than a standard DIN sized unit.

I cleaned up the faceplate area by making a mould of the gap using quick-setting plaster and some plastic food wrap. I them used some fibreglass to make a faceplate surround that went neatly around the aftermarket stereo faceplate, and attatched to the factory plate around the stereo area. A bit of spot putty and a lot of sanding, and a coat of paint later, and it looks like it was intended that way.

If you wanted to do it quickly, get some plexiglass, or lucite, and cut a piece that goes around the unit's face. Paint the side that will NOT be facing out, and trim to fit in the gap area. You'll get a nice surround for your head unit, and if you want to get creative, put a couple of LEDs around the edge of the plexi, facing inwards. The plexi will have a nice glow to it.
