I have noticed this problem ever since I did the Glow Needle Mod. Pretty much what will happen is that while I am driving the needle will just drop to 0mph. Sometimes it just goes back to the right mph by itself, sometimes I tap the plastic covering the guage and it moves back to normal, or sometimes when I slow down it will move back to normal.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and what would be the cause of it? Is it an electrical problem of the sensor or maybe the needle not being to tight or too loose. It doesn't cause a problem with driving just a little annoyance.

 

Did you tighten the screws holding the cluster itself in all the way? I think it is a electric connection issue. I would disconnect your battery, remove the cluster, clean the contacts, and reinstall insuring everything is tightened up properly.

 

I think it's electrical problem.

 

that happened to me when i put in the AOS gauges....the rpm, fuel, and temp. worked fine but the speedometer only worked from about 10am-until about 8ish pm ( i know weird). If I was driving early in the morning it would only register 0 mph until about 10 ish.....to solve this problem, i just permantly glued the overlay face permantly along with the others......

 

i think yours was more of a something rubbing something else type issue. the sudden drop to zero does sound like a bad connection somewhere.

 

So your saying that it is a connection issue. When I get some time I will have to take it apart and clean the contacts.
Is there a clean picture or diagram that shows what contact is for the speedometer?

 

It's the screws on the back of the odometer not tightened or the connections on the back of the cluster not seated properly. cleaning always helps. Tightening is what it sounds like it needs.

as for the connections, just rub them with a pencil eraser lightly, or ideally a pen type alcohol based contact cleaner.
