Default My auto shift know DIY for 2nd gen tiburon

Hello all, i know there are a few people that would like to do this mod and since i have already done it i decided to make a kind of how-too. All and all it was a really pretty easy mod and didn't take much time considering i didn't know what i was doing.

1. Well, first i went out and bought an aftermarket shift knob. There arn't any "rice" shops around here, so i bought it from pep boys(yea i know it sucks), Its made by 3a racing and the quality really isn't bad and it is real carbon fiber. I also bought a 3 way switch from autozone (but you can find those anywhere) You probley should put the keys in the ignition and turn it just enough so you can put it into the different gears(**make sure you remember to put on the E-BRAKE)

Anyway, as the first picture shows, you take a small flathead screw driver and pry the bottom of the shifter away from the top. Doing this with make the bottom slide down just enough to reveil these screws:

After removing the screws the only thing keeping the shifter together is the overdrive switch wires. Cut these wires as close to the top part as you can in order to have as much length as you need to mount you new switch:

Now remove the cover:

And remove the three screws holding the bottom peice in. Pop the coin holder out and take any kind of tool that you see fit and hollow and smooth it out(if you choose to mount your switch where i did). Then drill a hole that your switch will fit through and mount your switch. Take the wire that you have for the overdrive and pull it under and out the hole for the former coin holder like this:

http://www.hpphoto.com/rs/F3966096-F03D-11...277A760E/screen

Then take your mounted switch and connect the wires as shown:

http://www.hpphoto.com/rs/F3966097-F03D-11...277A760E/screen

Now what you want to do is make sure the switch is wired up correctly and turns on and off your overdrive like it should.

Next all you have to do is mount the aftermarket shifter like is says. Make sure you test it before to totally tighten it to make sure it goes into drive, park, ect....make sure it lets you take the keys out, put them in and all that good stuff. After all that adjustment, you should be done. here is what mine looks like...i hope i helped, feel free to email me if you have any quesions or anything...let me know what you think..........LATER.

K.. i took mine apart.. now i just need a new shift knob. My only question is about the wiring on the switch. In the pic, it shows black going to the supply, yellow going to on a/c, and red going to earth ground. Is all that right, cuz 1)i cant really see the red words in the pic, and 2)i would have thought black would go to ground. Let me know.. im not good at wiring stuff up. Oh, and can you take a better pic of the top side of the change holder switch? Thanks man
Peace
