Default My 4 year long quest for affordable leather seats is complete!

After living in Arizona for the past 4 summers, all I want is to own a car with leather seats and air conditioning. That's all. I bought one a year ago (2006.5 Kia Optima) and gave it to the girlfriend.. Never get to drive it. =(

FINALLY! After searching for ever I have found a set for my 1998 Hyundai Tiburon, for FREE!

A week ago I saw a guy in the parking lot near where I work bump starting his 1998 tiburon. Later I stopped him and saw that he had leather seats! I asked him if he was interested in possibly swapping his leathers for my cloth and in return I'd install a new starter for him. He agreed, and actually had a starter in the trunk! FREE leather seats! YES..

Moving on to air conditioning..

Which CAN! ?? !!! LOlz..

I'll get AC eventually. I plan to take out the motor and work on a few things, prob do it then.

So this guy's car is a PIECE! Dirty as f*ck. Oil leaks everywhere. Cracked valve cover. He's trying to get me to fix all that, and his radio and window regulator. Who knows, I might be gettin free leather seats AND some $$..

First I gotta finishing replacing his starter. Got the stock intake off and the starter unbolted/electrial connections removed. Had to stop to clean up and get ready for work and will finish tonight. Having a hard time figuring out how to get it out! Looks like I gotta remove the intake mani support brace first then decide if I want to pull it out from the bottom (which will require unbolting exhaust and hoping it fits through driveshaft and sway bar), or pulling it out from the top (which seems like it will require removal of intake mani/fuel rail/etc..)

Anybody done this before that has any tips?

Tip: replacing the starter sux balzz. You have to take out what seems like unrelated parts, and/or use a quadruple-jointed arm to get the thing bolted down. It is probably much easier with the engine out of the car. truestory.gif

Actually, I am a skinny muthafvcker and can get my arms all up ins the engine bay. LOL. I can get a ratchet wrench in there and loosen/tighten the mounting bolts just fine. I can unplug the electrical connections just fine, from underneath. Now I've gotta get the damn thing out of there and put the new one in. Wondering if anyone's taken it out from the bottom? I don't think it will fit between the driveshaft and sway bar, that's the only gap. If it won't I'd like to save some time and just start unbolt intake mani when I get home and take it out from above the engine.

you dont gotta remove the brace to swap starters

even though it makes things WAY easier, that brace was torqued by the angry fist of god

I took it off anyways, my original plan was to free the starter and try and wiggle it out from underneath the intake manifold which would require removal of the brace. Did a little more thinking and decided it's not worth it to get rust, dirt, antifreeze in my face and mouth while fixing someone else's car! Just started unbolting intake mani/fuel rail, forgot how quick it was..

Would've finished last night but there was a really badass accident near my place. Guy pulling trailer causes big accident in a busy intersection near my house. Working on the car out in the driveway I hear the commotion and take a peek.. Three cars smoking all around the truck pulling trailer, truck driver gets out of car, drops trailer and drives off leaving 3 horses inside trailer in middle of busy intersection.

I got a good look at the type of truck but was too far to get a license plate or good look at the individual. I cleaned up my hands as fast as I could and hopped in the car to go chase after him, a couple others did too. He ran into this dead end neighborhood so we split up. Never ended up finding him, just wasted the rest of my night.

Nobody really got hurt, just some spooked horsies.

It can't fit through the hole when you remove the intake stuff (TB, airbox, piping)?

I pulled the starter out from the bottom and there was no need to pull the mani support brackets. Of course I have a beta 2 and its in an accent so there may be more room for me to get the starter out.
