how good are mtx subs these days? i went to a local place that sells them and the sales guy demo'd a coupple of 10s. they sounded good in the box but sounding good and lasting/quality are 2 different things. do they last as long as you dont over power them or do they fall apart easily?

Haven't heard of them falling apart (MTX makes vehicle specific housings as well, which I read up on on several US forums). But haven't heard of them being good value either. All hear-say though. Only found one test featuring a recent 12 inch woofer, which did fine (MTX T612-22). 10" did not do as well as other brands in the past (2001). Apparently because Americans value power more than sound quality (quote). MTX is not very popular in Europe (too expensive for whatever reason - similar to Apple products). Bottom line is: if you like the sound the quality seems to be alright ie does not fall apart.

You shouldn't overpower anything if you want it to last
