Melted Fuse In Amp Power Line
Basically, i've got a melted fuse.
My question is, should I run a whole new cable to the trunk, or would I be okay with just splicing in a new fuse?
I'm running a 300w amp with one kv.12 from ED.
I'm not really sure why the fuse melted, it's really bugging me.

It melted the cable on the battery side of the fuse clean off. I had to pry the fuse case open with plyers - the plastic was melted together..

This is the kind of thing that makes me worry about fires.

Your pix don't work. I can't see the problem, but you need to be running 8AWG or lower gauge (bigger wire) and have a 25-30A fuse (at most) The reason your wire melted is because your fuse rating is too high.
post pix i wanna see.

Hm, okay. It was a 30a fuse with 8 awg wire, store-setup.
I'm sure I still have a roll of 4 gauge wire somewhere, so i'll just yank this and run that instead. Do you think i'd be better to go with a 25a fuse?

your using the wrong sort of fuse first off . you need an inline fuse (the kind with a clear case and screws together)
like this
your gonna allways run into lil problems like this with stereo stuff if u insist on using cheaper parts to save a few bucks. get a fuse holder like this and some wire that is at least 6gauge.
that other fuse is something i would use with like an LED setup or maybe a fuse for my crossover. but you cant seriously run constant power through something so small.
edit: and if these werent so cheap i would just let you have one because i have an extra in the glovebox but it would cost more than the holder is worth to mail it to ya.

but a fuse is a fuse dude.
a 30 amp blade fuse will function in the same way as a 30 amp anl or agu fuse.
im going to lean more towards it being an issue with the size of the wiring. run some 4 gauge and you should be fine. 300w is a lot to put through 8 gauge.

Alright, i'll take both comments to heart. wink1.gif
Don't get mad at me, Optimo, i'm innocent! lol The local car audio store installed and wired everything for me ~2 years ago. I didn't insist on using anything. tongue.gif
Thanks for the advice everyone. Maybe i'll invest in some 0 gauge and upgrade while i'm at it.
