Interior Cloth Dye
Hey!
Just a quick question about interior cloth dye (seats, carpet, etc...). Has anyone here used it or had any experience with it?
I was in an auto parts store yesterday getting some more Nite-Shades when I saw some of the dye stuff. It got me thinking about doing my seats black instead of having to swap them for racing seats, as these really aren't that bad & it's hard for me to justify tossing them out when they are still perfectly adequate... I just don't like the stupid "paint-splatter" pattern on them sad.gif

If you are talking about the vinyl and cloth dye in a can don't use it on cloth. It isn't much different than paint and I'm sure you can imagine what painting your seats would do. crazy.gif Just use normal cloth dye with warm salt water and a spray bottle if you want to go that route. Let them dry out good afterwards. I've done this before and it didn't turn out half bad. However, getting seats to dye black in this fasion would be difficult.

^^^ not true. Someone posted about this stuff before. They actually have stuff that's meant for seats. I only remember one color that it came in was "skidmark black". It cracked me up because I know of 2 different types of skidmarks and only one that relates to seats.
You should look up skidmark black cloth dye. It's what you need.

I had painted my rear seats with the cloth spray stuff. Honestly it really isn't that bad. You need to do multiple coats and lay it on thick don't cheap coat it with light strokes. Cover everything every nook and cranny. Take your seats out of the car and leave them out for a few days in a vented area, it will choke you if you put them right back in your car. The seats will feel a bit harder and they will fade over time, becoming a lighter black almost grey in some areas depending on how well you painted them. Now Its permanant in saying it will turn your seat whatever color you wish (did mine black) but over time they will need to be repainted depending on how much the rear seats gets used. So in closing if looking to do a quick cheap way of changing your color just follow what I said and you will be fine.
