I've torn the whole car down several times. The headliner will have enough room to flush mount a switch panel, but just barely. If you want to take it off, all you do is unscrew the visors, then you'll want to open the hatch, and pop off the panel that is at the joint where the hatch seperates from the roof.
You need to pull down the pillar panels. Then pop down the side panels but only at the top. Then just make sure all the little plugs are popped out and the whole thing will easily slide backwards out the hatch.
Piece of cake, should take about 10 minutes.
You'll see you have enough room to at least attach a switch panel to the roof of the car either with double sided foam tape or some other method, Then you'll just need to trim the headliner piece and where the panel should be, cut it about an inch too shy in on all sides then use the excess material you have to wrap it under and you can staple it or sew it I guess. then it'll site nicely atop your plastic panel looking like a amp panel or something.
I'm just rambling, lol. my bad
I just remembered, here is a 6 switch panel I made for Majik. Its only about 3/4 inch or so if you bent all the wires down in the back and then attached it to the roof, I think it'd look sweet.
