Default How many times has your car been broken into?

First time last night for me, but they didnt take anything. I was laying in bed watching tv, and I heard my alarm going off. I ran downstairs, and out the front door. Saw a couple of kids running to their car, hopped in and took off. Didnt catch their plate # because it was dark and they didnt have a light over their plate. I dont have a flashing LED for my alarm system, so they must not of known the car was armed. Im really glad I didnt lock my doors because I would probably be dealing with a busted window if I did. They just opened the door and the alarm went off. They dropped a couple of screwdrivers and some vice grips as they were running back to their car too. Stupid thieves.

Twice. First was my Cougar. MAJOR damage to the car. They used pry bars to break in instead of breaking a window. Used same pry bars to remove the rear seat back attempting to get my subs but the box was too big to fit through the opening. Second was the Accent. They were casing the car for a while, triggering the alarm to make me think it was falsing. I fell for it and turned off the alarm. A couple days later came out and the driver's window was broken and the entire audio system was gone.

Someone tried to break into my old civic. Not too sure why, there was no system in it and it was a POS!? They used a screwdriver near the drivers side handle and tried to "pop" the door handle off. Someone must have spooked them cause they never got into the car. They had to be some stupid kids because if you want into a 90's civic HB, all you need is a coat hanger to pop the trunk/rear hatch latch on the floor near the drivers seat. I used to do it all the time when I locked my keys in the car. My quickest time was under 30 seconds.

My Accent is stored/parked indoors when it's not being driven and rarely comes out, so I'm not too worried about it being broken into.

wait, what? how do you get a coat hanger from outside the car to open the trunk release?

i've never been broken into, but i'm either rolling in a beater POS or my stripped out accent, so there isn't much left to steal.

Once......tried to steal the whole car, but had no idea how, so they tried to rip the HU out, couldn't figure that out either, then finally took off after ripping the amp out of the seat back.....$1795 damage to me on 4th of July weekend in a mall parking lot equaled big fail!

you just need to pry up on the top of the door and slide the coat hanger between the body and door. Most tow trucks will use a method like this but most of them use tiny air bags to hold the door out. The old slim jim trick rarely ever works...... and no I was never a car thief.

there you have it. i remember my mate's old ford falcon (australian version - circa 1988) was the easiest car to break into. He frequently locked his keys inside the car. You just had to pry up the plastic door handle cover and you can easily access the lock and handle actuator rods.

all australian cars have immobilisers though, so no test driving for me.

That is one of the things I like about the Tib and the Prelude. Over here thieves are used the pins of VW etc. Both cars needed to be opened by locksmiths and it took them some time and they damaged the car a little. The prelude has been broken into once and one time the thieves were interupted.
