Hey Guys.

How many feet of power wire do you need to run a amp in the trunk in a 2001 Tib.

I took out my old system in my '96 Accent and have the following parts.

It's all 4guage Stinger wire

1.5ft piece from battery to a stinger 150A fuse and a then a 15.5ft piece that will be run to the back that attaches to a Stinger 1 farad Cap.

Is this enough or should I buy a new power wire kit?

Your fuse is almost twice the capacity it should be at. 4AWG wire should be fused at no higher than 95 amps, but for most applications should be fused at 85. You have to go up 4 wire sizes, to 1/0, for 150A.

Your fuse is pretty much useless since even a dead short from a car battery may not exceed 150A because of the batteries internal resistance. The wire could melt and cause a fire, or your battery could blow up.

Here's how the kit comes from Stinger:

Product Description: The SPK5241R is a 4 gauge high-end power delivery system. Kit contents were revised and now provide all gold finished terminals, translucent color matched pre-assembled molded fuse holders and pre-assembled ring terminals to take some of the work out of the install. This kit is capable of up to 1400 Watts and include the following:
» 18 ft. - 4 gauge Pro Translucent Red power wire with ring terminal
» 3 ft. - 4 gauge Pro Black Translucent Ground wire with ring terminal
» 1 MIDI Style (SPD5801) Fuse Holder
» 1 150A MIDI Style Fuse
» 17 ft. 18-gauge blue amplifier remote turn-on wire
» 10 7-inch wire ties
» Full Assortment of terminals and hardware (screws), protective Snap in wire grommet

So Stinger is providing the wrong fuse?

"Cranking amps" on a car battery are much higher than 150A (e.g. optima yellow top has about 500).
My knukonceptz 4AWG kit came with a 120A fuse. Although it shouldn't be actually ran at more than like 80amps (alternator has 90 amps, so you wouldn't want to use more than like 80 anyway).

A battery like the Odyssey will put out at least a 1000A at a dead short. A normal 12V car battery will put out a lot more amps that what they are rated at a dead short. I think I have a 100A in my Genesis Coupe.

Even if you don't have enough, you can always just get some more wire from an electronic supplies store. Buying an entire new wiring kit because you need four feet of wire seems a little wasteful.

Iirc my fuse is rated to 110a, and I've never had a problem. I think you should be fine, even with a small fuse, because you only have to crank the starter for such a short amount of time.

The starter on my Gen Coupe only draws 40A.
