Default How do I.......

i want to have my face for my deck in a different area then the deck itself. I have seen some people do this and im wondering how i can accomplish this.

i know its a simple connection but what would i use to make the connection and how would i do it?

i have seen some people with the face of the deck in the rear view mirror or just like the new civic si alpine has where the faces are in the door panels.

anyone have an idea? thanks

I was actually talking 2 a guy at tweeters about this last week. They take the face and leave the main unit somewhere else where theres room. He said you have 2 make direct connections by soddering or something and that U can only have it a certain distance from the main unit for it 2 function properly. Nothing im about to try on my own dunno

basically, you need to duplicate the connections between the deck and the faceplate via wires.
If you have a detachable faceplate, look at the 'deck' side of it. you should see copper connectors (6 or maybe 10 of them). You just need to solder wire connectors to both ends (deck and faceplate), and then you can move them wherever you want them.

If your faceplace isn't detachable...then stuff get's harder. Then you have to take the deck apart to duplicate the connections.

One of the guys that works at my shop has done this. He moved the face plate to a custom mount on his headliner. He used and standard ribbon cable that you use to connect hard drives and stuff together on your computer. When he powers up, it takes a second or two for the headunit to come up, but it works perfectly otherwise.

you'd at least have to solder wire connectors, then connect the ribbon cable to the wire connectors. How else are you going to hold everything together if not solder?

Long,

Solder comes off easier than it goes on. Just use a desoldering gun, or get a solder sucker from Radio Shack for like 4 bucks.

yeah i know how to work with solder but do you think the solder would mess up the copper on the deck at all?

Naaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!

Just be careful with the soldering gun....you're more likely to melt the plastic.
