Yes you can put a 3.5 inch mid in there and no it doesnt screw up the side window heater/defogger.

So ner laugh.gif

they practically go right in once you remove the heat duct (leave the window one in theyre seperated) but the hard part is going to be making a grille to cover them.
Right now Im outa ideas so Im taking a rest.

We're going to have a cold pandy.

I guess a good soloution would be to get a 3.5" surround, cut it in, sand the texture off of the door, and then fiberglass and bondo the whole thing, then paint the entire dash and both door panels.

Don't forget to block the vent or you'll be the only person i know with heated door panels smile.gif.

You know what I hate? When I wash the car in the summer, drop the windows, then when I roll them back up they have all the water spots.....

I think you just discovered a fix to that......as well as created an awesome location for a speaker!

Keep up the good work!

ya, it would make a good window dryer.. lol.. cuz i fuggin hate that. i either leave windows up, or leave em down, otherwise your screwed..

thats a nice location for a speaker and will provide great sound acoustically. i woulda fastened them differently though, so you wouldnt see the screws.

eh... not a bad idea. but why not just get some really kicka$$ speakers for the doors where they are supposed to go and mount tweets on the A-pillar. thats what i did and it sounds great.

I have kickass speakers to go in the stock place but that doest meet what I am doing here.

Firstly to put tweeters in the A pillars is breaking the dynamics of sound and going against what every manufacturer reccomends.

The tweeter should never be more than 5-6 inches max away from the mid driver because then you have a seperation in the image of the sound.

The reason I am going with 2 drivers per door is because of staging, I want a full spectrum of sound.

6.5 inch drivers are good at the low mid range, anything lower is where the 6x9s in the back come in. But I also want that high mid range sound that when tuned to do what they do the 6.5 inch mids will have trouble delivering.

Clumps and thumps dont need to be 'in your face' as it were, but with those little ones there aiming right up at me at an angle Ill get a nice high range that works well.

So basically when Hyundai designed the RD1 they broke the sound system from the offset, the tweeters are miles away from the mid drivers and hence why it sounded like sound was coming from all over the place with terrible imaging.

^^ WTF? I thought high freqs travel faster then low freqs. Wouldn't it be relative to the distance of the rest of the speakers? I mean if you have your sub in the trunk, not the back seat, it would make sence to delay the tweets.

Also, do you think you're going to put a surround over the tweets?

I need to come up with a 1" surround for the TV project I'm doing. The TV has a speaker that goes with it and I could use it to add some trebble to the trunk, unfortunately, it looks ugly as funk. I think i'll try to find a tweeter case and stick that sucker in there and mount it to the top of my box.

all sound travels at the same speed, the speed of sound.

lower frequencies will travel further than high ones though.
