It's been a while since this was posted on. I have a double din touch screen DVD/TV/SD/IPOD i'm installing in my vehical. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about double din mounting kits for non-OEM decks. I'd rather not tear up my stock surround.

double din is just a tad bigger than the stock single 4 inch opening me thinks, so you will have to do some cutting.

I got some new info. The size of the din is actually correct... left right up and down. it leaves about 3 MM space on the edges of my deck. The corners are rounded though. So, what really needs to happen is just to square off the corners. I'm taking care of it now.

Fit well. the corners just needed to be trimmed. Now it's time to come up with a custom molding for the double din sterio. I guess i'll go with my old favorite, vacuum tubing and weather stripping.

That's not new info. tongue.gif

During the brief time I ran a double DIN unit, I simply took the inccluded trim ring and carefully sanded it down until it fit the contours nicely, then glued it on. Gave it a few coats of paint and it looked great.

I was being lazy. smile.gif

That method only works well if you have a "picture frame-like" trim ring included with your HU. It won't work well with the flat rings, unless you are willing to do some bondo-ing afterwards.

Take a look at this guy's work if you want some ideas. Scroll down to the misc audio projects. Also, there are some nice DIYs in the "Our Press" section.

His liquid plastic can easily be replicated. It's a better choice than epoxy + body filler IMO. Although the latter would work fine for a simple trim ring. Anyway, with a few hours work you could make the radio fascia look like it was designed for your double DIN HU.

Hmmm... good ideas, looks simple enough, right now I just repainted my surround after cutting into it and am going to wait on acutally bondo-ing it until after i try something else. My idea is to place some vacuum tube along the edge of the surround and make it kind of squeeze into the area. I don't know just yet how it will end up, but we'll see. If it dosn't come out as planned, then i'll try this guy's stuff. Thanks for the link and I'll make sure to put that in my associated DIY.
