Default Custom Trunk Box??

I remember reading a thread at TSR where a Tib owner had made custom sub boxes that fit in to the recesses in the trunk, on the right and left side, near the taillights. I have been searching for a while now and I cannot find that thread anywhere. Does anyone have a link to it, or any detailed info on this enclosure?? It's starting to get warm soon and I want to be able to fit my golf clubs in my Tib.

I am also open for a simple spare tire well enclosure for the Tib as well if anyone has some pics or links. All I have is one 10 inch Alpine sub.

Thanks in advance.

Acutally I have pondered that thought before, but I am not so sure I want to remove my spare tire and jack. 99 percent of the time, if I got a flat, I could just call the wife, or another relative, and have them bring me my jack and tire. I also commute to work on a busy highway, so I would also hate to ask someone to drive an hour to get me my spare, nor would I hate to be stranded (I live in the Cascades, there is a lot of places where a cell phone won't get signal.)

At the same time, I really need some trunk space back. I was acutally thinking of builing a spare tire box, and then either make or buy a really strong grill to cover the sub. That way I could just throw my clubs on it and not have to worry about it.

I got to looking in my trunk last night and noticed that after the custom box is made (in the recess), it doesn't leave much room for the airspace that my sub needs.

If anyone has designs or idea for a tirewell box, I would be willing to take those ideas in to consideration.

I am in the process of doing my trunk right now. It involves everything you are wanting to do, but you are right, it leaves hardly any room for storage. BUT... my friend and I did think of a way to still keep the spare tire back there tongue.gif

Should have pics in about a month.

OK, so let me ask sort of a dumb question since I don't know much when it comes to sub boxes. Does the shape of the box matter much?? What I mean is, I now have a box that is pretty much square, with an angled face. Can I make a box that is longer, like the whole width of my trunk that would mount up aganst the back seat, and then make the box a few inches less from front to back? Or would it sounds like feces?

Thanks again!

The shape of the enclosure doesn't really matter.Just don't make it a perfect square,or have the sub directly in the middle of any other shaped enclosure.Doing this will increase the amount of "standing waves" inside the enclosure and will decrease the amount of bass output at a particular freq or freq's.Basically, you will have an out of phase condition.

AllBlackTibby.............I understand what you are saying about an enclosure fitting in the sides of the hatch not having enough internal volume for your sub(s).What you can do is install something called an 'aperiodic membrane' into the enclosure(s) Doing this will keep the enclosure sealed, but the pressure inside the enclosure is allowed to escape. This tricks the sub into thinking that the internal vol is much larger(about twice!!)and will allow it to play deeper and louder, and without distortion.Or at least, much less distortion then if the enclosure is too small.

that looks pretty sweet....but how do you change out the brake lights?? what i meant was that i'm making a whole enclosure so this way when you get a flat....you put the back seats down and slide the entire box...sub and amps...foward and sure enough..there is your spare!! i know what you mean about using the spare!! and of course wifey is always....like...well what happens when....set is kinda like my counterbalance....!!but thats what i'm doing over the summer.
