Connecting subwoofers to Stock head unit?
Hey, I already checked out the DIY about the subwoofer installation, and I have done this installation before. The difference was it was with an aftermarket head unit. I was wondering if I need an adapter to connect the audio cables to the back of the stock head unit in a 2001 Tib?
they are pretty cheap, but I dont think quite that cheap, maybe $10-20.
and as for your power wiring....that depends on a couple of things.
1.) Where you will be mounting the amp.
2.) Where you will be routing the cables.
I have an entire system sitting next to me in my office at work, and the cables that I have are 30' long for power (that should be plenty to get to the rear of the hatch from the battery if the cables are ran down the drivers side)
ground you'd prob need 5 - 10 tops. thats for both the battery ground and the ground from the amp to the chassis.

30' is waayyyy pleanty.It only takes 15-20'.

Ughhh???? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but you only need to go from the amp to chassis ground. And of course the ground cable should be as short as possible.
To the original Q............ As was stated before, if your amp accepts hi level (speaker wires) input, then you don't need a hi to low level converter. If not, then you do need a hi to low level converter.
Either way, you should use the rear hu outputs to feed the sub amp. That way, you can use the front to rear fade on the hu for a type of 'sub level control'.

the 30' feet is just how JL sells thier wiring kits, I will also be running 2 amps, I would not be surprised at all if I end up w/ about 5-6' left over. But that denends on where my Distribution block ends up getting mounted.
Yeah I forgot to put that (Ground as short as possible) in there, and I was just subtly encouraging him to also upgrade the battery to chassis ground as well.
There is a DIY for the big 3 wire upgrades. I know I will be doing that w/ whatever I have left over. Might not get any HP from it, but noone has ever shown better ground cables to hurt performance, either HP/TQ or A/V.
US tibs did not come w/ the clarion HU.

So are you saying that I can just wire directly from my rear speakers to the amp if i wanted? because my amp does accept hi level speaker wires, so does that mean it's possible to just wire it directly without connecting anything to the HU initially?
Yes!! As long as your amp has a 'hi level' input connector (that's the way I've seen all amps set up), then you do not need a converter.
Just please make sure you understand your amp when doing this.I don't know what your technical level is so forgive me if I sound like an ass, but don't try to connect the rear hu outputs to the output of the amp.MAKE SURE you know for a fact your amp accepts hi level in and you understand how to connect it that way.
