anyone ever used one of these? would it work the same as a standard voltmeter tapped into ign/ground?

It will give you the power going to the cigarette lighter. I don't find it very useful. Grab a cheap voltmeter gauge for $20 and run a power wire to the battery and ground it nearby, then run a wire to the fuse box for the parking lamp (or whatever 12v source ONLY gets power with ignition). It's 3 easy wires and actually measures the battery rather than the cigarette lighter.

 

In addition to what Majik said, a mate of mine had one of these cigarette lighter jobbies in his Pulsar. It looked soooo far out of place and very eBay. Get an actual gauge if you really need to know at all times that your alternator is working.

 

a lot of people use volt meters on cars with aftermarket ECUs.



Because the injector Dead time @13.8V is important to dial in.. So even if u have spikes of 0.5 volt on the system can sightly change the how the injectors are effected. (Not 100% needed cause of course u can use a volt meter as a even fairly base line. But People who have huge injectors on small engine sizes.. it's hugely important. Thats why when engine is running and u remove the battery even tho the car is easly getting enough amps from the alternators u may hear a sightly engine sound change.
