Just got my 2001 Tib a week ago and diving right into the mods. I've got carbon fiber Euro tail lights and a CAI system on their way and right now I'm in the midst of installing an alarm/remote system including remote/keyless entry....and since I have the console and dash all tore apart I thought I'd put a post here to see if it was possible to change the color of lighting behind the gauges. Right now the light behind the gauges is grundgy white color, the clock is green and the stock stereo is blue (by the way a stereo upgrade will be done soon). I found the DIY on changing the lens on the clock and plan on changing it to blue and, if possible, I'd like to change the bulbs/leds behind the gauges to blue also. I searched the forum and DIY but haven't found anything regarding just a swap of the bulbs/leds. Is this possible? Does it require sodering...how easy is it?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance

Well I'm no led or lighting master but I'm sure tibby01 will reply with some great explanation tongue.gif
Anyway, thought I'd say welcome, and if I were you I'd check out the dash removal DIY, when you're putting it back together for the first time I can almost guarantee that the heater cable will fux0r with your mind and drive you insane unless you know what to do, lol.
What kind of CAI did you get?

Actually, it's been posted a few dozen times. Search for dash lights, or color dash lights, you'll find a bunch of info.

There are dozens of threads on changing the cluster bulbs, try searching for "194 bulbs" or "gauge LEDs" and so on. Pick up some blue WLED-x5 bulbs from superbrightleds.com. That's the easiest way. Drop in replacement. Search for dash or gauge removal to find out how to remove the cluster. And don't put your key in the ignition when removing or with the cluster removed, unless you want a lovely airbag warning light.
Edit: Redz beat me to it.

Here's what you need for behind the guages = 4 X 194 bulbs (If you are getting LEDs, which I'd recommend, do NOT get the 4 bulb type, get the single bulb dish head style, they actually glow better and wider), and 2 X 73/74 bulbs (Again, get the LED's). All are available from Superbrightleds.com like Tiby 01 said.
is this info still up to date its hella old now? nana.gif
im lookin on superbrightleds.com and im unsure
wich is better single led? 4 or 6 led? wled x5 x6? t13 x6? 921 x9?
do i want the 73/74 with or without holder?

you can re-use the stock holders. wither way, you will need to widen the holes a bit because the leds push out on the holder and make it bigger. i found the small diameter sanding wheel for dremels is the perfect size.
wled bulbs are better, because they spread light out at a super wide angle. the single wide angle ones are too weak, and the ones that are clustered 4 are to narrow and will leave dark spots. the wled ones work almost perfectly.

Get the ones with the holders, it's a PITA to try to get the bulbs out of the OEM holders.
Also, 1988? WTF??? LOL
Uhm, the 6 LED ones I belive are TOO big to fit in there. Go for the W 4 or 5.
