Hey guys, whenever I put my headlights on and put my dash lights to full blast, I smell burning. The only way to get rid of the smell is to dim the dash lights all the way down. I don't understand how something can be burning...

could be a piece of plastic on a lightbulb, or it could be a short causing excessive heat. Have you done any lighting mods?

hmmm.. Maybe a bug got in there and is finding his firey grave? Can you isolate the problem futher? Really, in a situation like this, you need to gather more info. Go out there and don't stop troubleshooting until you see flame... Or at least find out the area it's comming from.

^^

Brother,

There is one light bulb that lights the temp gauge. It goes out once in a while, but when you hit the dash, the light goes back on.... now, when I drive long distance, the light goes back on for a long periods of time.. that's when I smell the burning. At that point, I dim my lights to get rid of the burning.... Loose wire=burning smell?

probly not a loose wire, but i'd pull the cluster and replace the bulb. The cluster mounts through sockets you can see in this picture... Best to pull the far left and seccond to left lightbulb and replace them.

I'm thinking the problem is probly a light. You should pull the center left (grey bulb) and the 2nd to left (the socket with solder)

click on my signature for a DIY to remove the dashboard. It will get you all the way up to the cluster, but You'll need to remove 4 screws securing the gauges that are not pictured.

HAHAHA. I had to laugh at this once more. Could be though.. I"ve had tons of spiders and other bugs come into my car. Sometimes during the summer, i forget to close my windows when parking my car in the garage.

check if nothing is touching your battery terminals. i had smoke and ecu falure all thanks to my CAI touching the battery terminal.
