Just wanted some opinions on two subs:

The Sony XS-L124P5B 12" sub

Here is a link to the ebay auction for specs: Sony Sub

Or....

The Alpine Type R 10" sub

Here is the link to the ebay auction I'm considering: Alpine Sub

This is what I am looking for:

Deep Lows, so a 12" sub is what I was consdiering

Fairly shallow mounting depth as my next setup will have very limitied room for the box. Box will be roughly .76 ft3

Both of these subs would fit, the sony would be a tad bit easier as its mounting depth is about 5/8" less, which will be a LOT of real estate in this next build.

The Alpine can go in a sealed enclosure of .5-.8, but the Sony says it needs .96.

The Sony is less expensive then the alpine by a whopping 60 bucks.

The alpine can handle 500 WRMS! The sony only 380.

BUT.....the Sony 12 will have more surface area

But......the Alpine 10 has a larger magnet.

I'm exhausted!!

I cant make up my decision and just wanted to see what others thought. My original goal was to get a single alpine type r 12 to replace my 2 older alpine type r 10's, but the Type r 12 is like 1/2" to deep! ARGH!!!!

I'm at a stalemate here guys, and just want your .02 if your willing. fing02.gif

Alpine all the way, in this case you're getting what you paid for I think

sony has always been overrated IMO and so even though you may be getting 380 watts of power you really are only getting about 200 watts of quality

i say alpine my .02

Definitely the Alpine. I have it and I like it, and Sony has fairly bad reviews in general.. AND it's more powerful RMS

I know you are a stickler for sql, so why not look into the jl low profile sub? here is a link. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pa...php?page_id=245

Or you could try the 12w3.

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pa...php?page_id=245

The jl I like the most would have to be the jl 10w7. Man is that thing clear and punchy. It mounts a lil deeper than you would like, but man does it sound amazing.

If you had to choose between the two you listed i would deffinately go with the alpine.

Just dont buy the sony. You will not be happy with it. The audio just isnt on the level of alpine.

never buy a sony anything..........

alpine>jl

but JL and JBL arent even good companys, thats just the kinda stuff people buy when its on sale and then they are happy with it and talk it up. noone has won any competition with either since the 90's....

SQL

RE audio by US Amps
or
Critical Mass
or
Audiopipe

SPL

^^look above because all high power SQL will allways put up a high SPL. thats just a side effect of power. wink1.gif

but in any case noone is ever impressed by bass anymore, its your mids/highs that really turn heads at a show or on the street. when you can hear the words from a few blocks away you know that shit is loud

Since you're only 16, I'll cut you some slack on the "always" comment. Sony used to make really good stuff, but you were like 6 then.

I have two Sony XM-7547 Mobile ES 75x4 amps. They're about double the size of Sony's current stuff. One runs my 2 Boston Pro 10.4 subs. The other is on the shelf as a spare.

That being said, go with the Alpine's. They're cheaper than Boston's and better than Sony's current stuff.

Im a bit of a Sound enthusiast.

The older products seem to perform better.

And the newer Sony/Pioneer is Definately a no no.

I am more of a SQ and a bit SPL.

I would go for Alpine, Soundstream(Older Versions) as well as the entry level DLS.

I really like the DLS products.

Even though i have the end products the entry-level speakers are very good.

They are clear as hell and hardly distort.

Give them a look they are made in Sweden.
