I was in team extreme(orion) for 8 yrs.
What helps the most is a battery isolator(for 2 batteries)and a one farad cap. I ran a 2100 HCCA ORION AMP(100X2,OR 1000+ WATTS) TO 8 12'S IN A WALL.
rolleyes.gif tHE ISOLATOR CHARGED ONE BATTERY FOR THE SYSTEM, THE OTHER WAS FOR THE VEHICLE START UP. THE CAP HELPED THE SYSTEM FROM A 152DB TO 156.7 DB wink.gif
ALSO YOU MIGHT WANT TO UPGRADE YOUR SPEAKER WIRE
rIGHT NOW I HAVE A 225 hcca AMP RUNNING ONE BOSTON GENERATOR.
I HAD A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH THE LIGHTS DIMMING, SO I PUT MY ISOLATOR IN AND PURCHASED ANOTHER BATTERY.
nO MORE DIMMING SO TRUST YOUR DECISION

First of all jaws99-I DON'T NEED FOOTBALL TERMINOLOGY. I'm not some dumbass that pretends to know what he's talking about, I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. My point is that this guy wanted to know if a cap would help to keep his headlights from dimming, the answer to that question is NO.

DAN-I know that a cap helps to filter out AC voltage that was not filtered out by the factory rectifier and that it does wonders for sound by providing more available current closer to an amplifier for it to draw off of hence letting it perform better, BUT even if the amp is only drawing 30 amps of current once the 17 amps that the cap holds is drawn it has to recharge, pulling another 17 amps from the battery/alternator. Therefore where does it help the alternator. NOTHING is a complete substitute for a high output alternator, everything comes from the alternator. The battery is simply there for starting the vehicle and providing reserve power. Alternators are extremely expensive though, but caps, in my opinion are way overrated. I did state that they are excellent for sound but they will not help dimming headlights enough to justify spending $150, in my opinion. Just giving out some info.

First of all I did not think anyone namely yourself was a dumb ass but some people are just getting their feet wet with car audio and might not know the workings of compents from the start so I was trying to simplify things for the people that are new to this you can't assume evryone knows what your talking about when you don't know for sure they do. Second a cap will help the lights but not that much the only way to do that is like I said to put in a circuit breaker of some sort to run the sterio of the cap. So don't get all uptight we are supposed to be helping eachother here not bitching like little girls. Also if I offended anyone by trying to help I am sorry that was not my intent.

You are right they do draw power to recharge but they recharge almost instantly where the amp can drain for seconds a cap is like drugs for someone with a life threating disease they are used to extend the life of the battery and the alternator not make them imortal.
