Alarm Questions (SPLIT!)
Hey Guys
I have been looking around for car alarms like you guys have said and I like the Alpine. The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't come with the LCD 2-way pager. I really want to have that function to be able to monitor my car and feel secure. I have been researching the 2 way pagers and I found a company that has a lot to offer for a reasonable price. Has anyone heard of or installed AutoPage? www.autopageusa.com Their two way pager has tons of features including shock/glass sensors, starter kill, and tons of features on the remote including temperature monitoring.
I also was wondering about remote car starters. Some of them include this function but I think it would be easier for a car thief to steal your car. Does anyone have a remote car start and would it be a worthy add on? How would it work with a manual?
Any help with finding a good 2 way pager system for a decent price would be appreciated. I really miss my music and won't put anything back into my car until I have it armed.

aah one thing about the manual and a remote start... you have to install some kind of a clutch bypass... my personal opinion i'd say screw the remote start for that fact alone... no one wants to be messing with their clutch like that.

These are all very similar with the same features including remote start. The lowest price I have found so far on ebay is $150 buy it now.
I am also considering the Compustar alarm. This would be the pager that is reported to have a 1 1/4 mile range compared to Viper at 1/4 mile range. Right now this is the only feature I see that gives Compustar an advantage.
The price is running about $200 on ebay.
Has anyone bought or installed any of these remote pagers? I want to make sure my car is secure with the best remote for my money.

Well I know there are a few guys on here with the CompuStar. Both with the FM and SS models.
I have the FM one myself.
Only basic advantage the SS has over the FM unit is that the SS has about 33000 codes to jump from, good for peeps in high crime / stolen car areas like new york where they have scanners. Compare to the 10 or so on the FM. Also the SS transmit at 981ish Mhz where the FM transmits at 433Mhz. Both are Digital signals, not sure what the DEI's are at.
My money would be on the Compustar. Can't lose with either the FM or SS.

I will be deciding on my alarm system this Thursday night and I am having a really hard time deciding.
Please help me out guys on which alarm I should go with: compustar 2WSS-AS or Viper 790xv.

Thing with the CompuStar is, it's all AUTO, The installer should know what he's doing if you get it done at an approve CompuStar retailer.
I have it on my Car, it's a 5spd.
It's really simple.
To arm the car and set it up to start your car:
1. Pull to a stop and park.
2. Pull the ebrake - (Leaving it out of gear)
3. Your car is now "set" for remote start and alarm will be set.
4. Take your key out (don't step on the brake or else that will cancel the sequence)
5. Open door (or open door then take key out)
6. Once both doors are closed, it arms the alarm, locks the door and is set for remote start. It will give you a confirmation chime on the remote
Only way you won't be able to start it with the remote for next time is if you unarm the system, and open the doors. If you unarm the system and don't open the doors, and only the trunk let's say, it'll be fine.
It's a safety feature, what if you opened the door and put it into gear right? Then your car will jump next time you remote start it
So yeah it's dummy proof really. For an auto, it's even simplier
CompuStar gets my vote, oh yeah it's like 5000 ft. range, that's over a mile!
