Default Alarm Questions =/

Sorry --I hope Im posting this in the right forum....

Anway-I want to get an alarm for my Tib since I'll be driving to the Bronx everday for school lol...I am not gonna go thru the dealer because I know it'll cost less getting an alarm somewhere else...So my question is--which alarm do you guys have -what are the features etc...and what to you recommend? Also--if I'm getting an alarm outside the dealer--do I need to or should I still get the keyless entry option when I buy the car?

Any help would be appreciated ! Thank you smile.gif

Hey Dani,
The only reason I have keyless entry is cause it's faster and you don't have to worry about those scratches that people get when they miss the key hole.
One of the options that I have also is the Ignition kill switch, that will guaranty 80% of the time that your car will not be stolen.
The other 20% is because they are really, really good or they have a
toe-trunk
Any other option all depends on how much you have.
For me the brain of the alarm costed me $300 and the options $500 more. As you can see I have a lot of option.
But don't get a remote starter, I mean what a waste of time.IMO
Chao!

Oh boy I love these questions ! I have a DEI Viper550esp, options on my alarm are Remote start, keyless entry, proximity sensor, remote trunk release, remote sunroof open and close, remote window roll up and down, glass break sensor, starter disable, back up battery, and illuminated entry.
Now you don't have to go crazy like I did but I worked for the big red tag and got a great discount this would run the average Joe about 1500 clams for the set up I have. When you go for an alarm the starter disable is a plus not only does it help prevent the jacking of your car but it will drop your insurence rates to. If you decided to get keyless entry you will have to buy an actuator the Tibs don't have power locks they have follow locks meaning what the driver lock does so does the passenger so you need this piece to trigger that effect for keyless. And as far as the other question about stalling if you have a standard the answer is NO. With the better alarms they come with a bypass to hook up to the clutch pedal therefor telling the alarm and the car the clutch is pressed, their is a wire right at the top of the pedal to hook this to but be warned this is illegal in all states because if you leave the car in gear it will drive away and run over the stray cat down the street OOOPS rolleyes.gif . What I did to prevent my car from driving away is I put a mercury switch on the bottom of the shifter if the contacts do not touch the car will not start with this it senses it is not in neutral. If you have any more questions let me know I will help out with whatever you need and sorry for this huge reply but I love anwsering or helping with questions like these.

About the actuator, should I hear it? Honestly, from 20 or so feet from my car I hear "ERRRRRRREEEK" coming from the drivers side door. Is that normal?

Dude, you should patent that idea and sell it!

As far as the actuator goes you might hear it if you have a DEI piece (actuator). Reason being is about 2 years ago a few got out that were not up to snuff and when they are activated the make a load humming sound like a horny bumble bee just take it back to where you got it and they should replace it because every dealer (unless their stupid) knows about the problem or you can contact DEI directly and they should replace it> But it doesn't mean it's bad it's just that the motor in the peice is still pulling after the door is locked. Yeah Random that would be pretty cool to put a pat. on my idea but for how much time and money it would cost me to get it I might just make enough to break even, but good idea though.

I have a CrimeGuard 533i2 from www.crutchfield.com It has starter kill, two auxiliary ports (to add trunk release, keyless entry, window roll-up module, etc), it can monitor hook, trunk, and doors, and it can run a power-door lock system. It has a battery backup, cool LED to tell thieves to go away, and a dual stage shock sensor.

I did the installation myself and just added the keyless entry three weeks ago. Install is not hard, but not for those who fear cutting wires. You have to measure and tap several leads in the driver's side kick panel. The whole setup with keyless entry cost me $190, the alarm itself was only $130. Nice thing about crutchfield is that you can get a wiring harness that snaps right into the factory starter relay, so you don't have to cut any wires there. You just have to tap into the trunk light, parking light, and dome light wires.

Hope this helps.
