OK, here's the deal i want to put a monitor (7" or 10") on the spot where my passenger side airbag is(you know that panel that says SRS).
My question is, is it legal to remove that airbag? Or will it cause the car to be totaled because of that or anything else pertaining to , i guess, airbag deployment/removal?

Yes, it's illegal to remove or tamper with installed airbags.

Federal Offence, so state laws don't apply.

If you are in a minor fender bender, and your aribags are deployed, there is nothing that says you have to replace them. You do have to remove all your SRS symbols.

well i do have a hole in my bumper from hitting a truck so maybe a will repeatedly drop a hammer or bat in there and "accidently" deploy them, then i will have a very good reason to get a new steering wheel to. thanks y'all

just remember.. with car makers relying more and more on airbags.. a lot of them are not putting in the kinds of seatbelts they had before airbags.. many of them are made to SLOW your impact with the bag, not stop you dead like in the days of yore... I do not know if Hyundai subscribes to that line of thought or not.. but it is worth noting.

Default VHR Throwout Bearing -need one ASAP EMERGENCY

My airbags went off just by hitting a curb. When they went off the passenger side broke the windsheild so you might want to remove it first if you can. I think the tiedown (look under the car from the front it sticks down a inch or two) set it off because it took the impact and jolted someting. I got new airbags from eBay from a totaled 2001 Tib. Also the seatbelts locked up so I got the RJS racing harness which is cheaper than the seatbelts. I still have the stock seats and the seatbelts took about 10min each to install, I did it and it's easy. The only down side to them is they take a little bit to get buckled in,but other than that they are great.

I have an 2001 Tiburon Auto.

OK here's a better question, is it any different to change your steering wheel? and if it isn't why don't people get tickets or whatever for it?

It is illegal to remove the airbag BUT is it enforced?? Alot of state and federal laws are not seriously enforced to the proper extent...depending on where you live.

What do you mean change it?

If you replace your OEM airbagged steering wheel, it's a federal offence.

Very true, but more and more states are having yearly or bi yearly inspections now, so is it worth it?

For a monitor that would almost DEFINATELY get you into a wreck?

if you want a monitor that YOU can easily watch while driving, why not get some LCD Visors?
