i want to get an aftermarket wheel because it's the only thing my interior is really missing and i think they look so cool. i need to know how to remove the air bag though....i've asked before but no one knew how to help me. i don't want to go to a shop and pay a ridiculous amount of money, i want to do it myself.

Do some more research on it. Search on HP, HA. But I was told by my shop that, you just have to disconnect the battery then remove the airbag. After you install the new wheel and reconnect the battery, the AirBag light will be on all the time. I am not sure how to get that turned off, probably the dealer. It is a touchy subject, aftermarket steering wheels. They all look amazing, but there is a whole mess of your insurance comany covering you if you get in an accident. I have been thinking of it for a long time now. I have the wheel picked out, but I am waiting to find out more on insurance and the Airbag light.

dealer is the only way to get the airbag light off. it is a dealer specific code thing. it will run you about 40 bux.

also, is there a law on removing an airbag system and driving on the road? i heard something about it being illegal to remove any airbag or safety device from an automobil.

i know many cars have it done so cops must not care about it. i know people get tickets for having to big of a muffler tip so who knows...

Well.. liability aside.. I think to remove the bag you have to pull the bolts from behind the wheel that hold the thing in place. Definatly make sure your Battery is disconnected and there is NO energy anywhere to be found in the wiring of the car. The bag inflates with incredible force and if you have a wrench or a screwdriver between you and it when it goes off.. if you are lucky you might only wind up impaled.

the shop that sponsors me will do it for me but they have to charge me because they said they normally don't do it, but since they are sponsoring me, they will do it but he said it's pretty tricky. i just like to do things myself or with friends because it's so much better saying "i or we" did this instead of just having a shop work on your car for you. i am against not doing work on your own car lol oops.gif almost everything i have done or have had help doing so i wanted to do this project too

The airbag was easy to remove. Just make sure you disconnect the battery before taking it out though so it will not go off in your face. Other then that it is just a few screws and bolts. Took me about a half hour total to remove the steering wheel and airbag and install the new one.
